Vets - ever had a newbie make you mad????

A friend of mine who had WLS a couple months after I did and has lost 150lbs was in the beauty shop last night and another customer said she'd just had RNY.  My friend was eating a bag of caramel popcorn and the newbie chick said 'Are you sure you need to be eating that?'

Now - couple things:
1 - this chick and my friend don't know each other well at all.  Only contact is when their appts overlap
2 - newbie chick CLAIMED she'd had surgery on Tues of this week (and you at the shop on thurs?  after lap RNY?  ummm - I smell a rat!)
3 - my friend has maintained her loss (although I contend she's not doing it the RIGHT way) so it's not like she's ever gained since WLS

Ever had this happen to you?  Where a STRANGER tries to confront your food choices?  How have you handled it?

I've NEVER had someone question me!  Now, folk at work know I will NOT eat just anything, my boss has asked me at client/vendor dinners whether the menu will be suitable for me - but never a 'you ain't supposed to eat that' challenge!

And just so you don't have to ask - my girl went off on the chick - and ate another bag of popcorn..... LOL!!!!

I know that your question was posed to the vets but I would like to respond as a newbie (a pre op even). I would never ask such an offensive a question like that....'Are you sure you need to be eating that?'  I say it is offensive because you never know someones cir****tances. I would in fact be curious as to what effect eating that item has on her body (dumping, sticking. etc) but I refuse to be rude in wanting to know.

I often marvel at how well the vets have adapted and it gives me hope that eventually i will be able to indulge in treats ocassionally down the road. I make it a point to read and listen and learn from all of you which she(not your friend) obviously has not done.

What works for some does not work for others and just because you can wont me that i can.

Ol' girl is an idiot and I agree I dont think she would be in the shop that soon after surgery.

Can't is never an Option.

Not necessarily mad BUT made me decide to stop trying to offer advice.

I use to be the person who would visit new post-ops in the hospital and have my phone available 24-7 for any questions. I got burn out with the many who I would offer assistance and would later disappear with no word whatsoever... WTF

I'm just a 'tween' but I'm butting in on the vets as usual.  I can believe she had the wls because I was running the streets and playing at the internet gambling parlors the day after my lap rny.  The hair dresser in two days would have been nothing for me.

Everybody thinks that when you're fat they have an open invitation to critique anything you eat and your body too.  I was putting that **** in check long before wls.

Once a friend asked with genuine concern if I should have a chilli dog when I was first on solids.  He saw it as a junk food snack.  I explained to him that I plannedd this into my day and I do not eat the bun.  That makes it a high protien lunch.  He learned something about wls and has never questioned my choices again.

I on the other hand, I am the newbie to my daughter who had a vbg ten months before my rny.  I am a pain in her ass just be cause as a newbie and as her mom I can be.

I had my surgery about 4 in a half months ago so I guess Im a "newbie" Anyway... my mom does that junk to me and so does one of my best friends. If I eat a Cheeto "U know better then to be eating that" if I have ice cream " thats not on the list of things you should eat" I feel like Im under a damn microscope with some of my friends and family. I was way more comfortable eating a plate full of food and going back for 2nds before surgery, then eating in front of them after surgery. I know that WLS is life and ha*****anging, but let me have a damn Cheeto and a small amount of ice cream once in a damn while and enjoy it! Then I see them eat and Im like u need to be watching yourself and stay the hell out of my plate!

Your friend should have gone off on her silly butt

I don't think I have had anybody make me mad like that.

People that I am close to know better and with casual

acquaintances I don't talk about my personal affairs so she

probably wouldn't even have known I had surgery.

MSW said ****** Everybody thinks that when you're fat they have an open invitation to critique anything you eat and your body too. ****

earlier in this thread.   This is so true.  Before I had wls occationally someone would make a

comment that was off limits or ask me an inappropiate question about weight or what I ate and

then of course the un-solicited health and diet advice.
