New Post-op Tip

2 weeks from today will be Thanksgiving and I know that new post-ops are probably stressing and vets are too. Last year was my 1st year with my pouch and Thanksgiving and I was scared and  9 months out. Here are some tips that may help you.

* Know what stage you're in and follow it to a T .....ex. (if you are on liquids then drink your shakes and maybe go for a walk if the food smells bother you or go to a quiet room and read or meditate during this time)

* Do not try new foods to the pouch, band or sleeve at this time. Our new bodies are finicky and  will respond accordingly. A new food can cause dumping, vomiting, diarrhea or get stuck and sometimes even almost 2 yrs out, food that I've had before causes reactions that I haven't had before.

* Protein first !!! You know there will be turkey but if it's dry it may not go down so add a little gravy to moisten it a little or eat any protein you want. Chew thoroughly and slowly.

* Do not drink 30 minutes before and after meals ( I know that is the usual rule for rny but don't know about the band, ds and sleeve)

* If you haven't told your family about your surgery, or if you don't want to stink up the whole house with your toxic gas, then take Devrom tablets which can be ordered from devrom.com and before using the bathroom use Just A Drop in the toilet that can be ordered from Walter Drake or Miles Kimball or somewhere on the internet. My family is very thankful that I found these items. lol

* While you are healing, you may not know when you are full because the nerve endings are healing, so follow your surgeon and nutritionist's recommendations on how many ozs you should be eating.

* Enjoy your family and don't stress about eating everything in sight for once.

Got to get my walk on. But I'm going to do mine right after eating, because we have a big family dinner on my daddy's side of the family and we have to rent a place to have it. After being with all of those loud folks for a few hours, I'll need to destress because I'm used to it being quiet.   I love them though and I'm thanful to have them.

Hey Ms Neenaj,

As always, thanks for the tips.  Especially the potty tips.

I'm already making my plan for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I've got four big eatin' days between now and when I want to hit goal.  I've got to be real careful.
