Is anyone out there a vegetarian after WLS....Im contemplating becoming one again. I was up until age 18, and now with all the mess going on with meat Im thinking about going back to it, but I havent found any research on what that would do to a person having had WLS....advice anyone?

I grew up as a vegetarian and its not as bad as people think lol. Once I got old enough to pick my own food I started eating chicken but I still haven't tried beef or pork. I think it depends on what degree you're going to take it to. Will you be a vegan, lacto-vegetarian, or a pescetarian-one that still eats fi****hink being a vegan would get old fast. I love tofu but with my protien requirements I would get tired of it fast. There's also carbs that when eaten together make complete protiens, but I don't know how that would effect me with maintenance.

not speaking for Shani - my plastic doc told me the same thing

reason is - you need fat for healing after surgery.  Just because you weigh 1XX doesn't mean that you ARE really that weight - the skin and extra fat that will be removed are a part of that.  I had about 15 extra lbs on me - I was 20 from what I considered my goal at the time - with as much surgery as she's going to do - the extra weight will be needed to support healing and recovery.

While we are ALL fixated on it - #s, are indeed, NOT everything.......

now maybe if I re-read what I just wrote 5 or 6 million times, one day *I* will believe it.

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

That's exactly how I ate for 13 years! I have had every fish known to man lol. You could easily get your protien requirements in that way.

Yup, at goal. The surgeon I'm prob going with told me I have very lil fat left on my body. I'm still a lil chubby by standards...I'm at 26.7 BMI and anything over 24.9 is overweight. He asked what size I wanted to be, I actually want to stay in a 10.....just less floppy! I'm having lipo done and then that fat is gonna be transferred to my butt. If I lose more thats less junk in my trunk!

Hi Charlene,
I've been a vegetarian for over 20 years now.  I have found many ways to get my protein in with high protein options-TVP, Quron products (http://www.quorn.us/).  After working with my nutritionist I now eat Tilapia  about once a week.  It's the only fish I will eat, because it doesn't taste or smell fishy.  I took a long time for me to get my mind right on eating it, but I'm good now.

Quorn is the leading brand of mycoprotein food product in the UK.[1] A mycoprotein is any protein-rich foodstuff made from processed edible fungus.

Good luck,
Andrea
