Why is She Telling Me Stuff We BOTH Know?

The three people in my immediate office have TV's.  We keep them on national news as a way of open source intelligence gathering.  (although I know someone who has switched over to watch Judge Joe Brown every once in a while).

Anyway, with all the unfortunate stuff in the news yesterday, AND today, why is this co-worker of mine giving me minute by minute updates??  We are both watching the SAME channel.  I know what she knows at the same times she knows it!!!!  WTF???
