Hi all,

I'm just wondering what causes people to dump...  Is it sugars?  Caffeine?  I'm trying to do some research so I have a clear understanding of what I need to keep out of the house so I don't have to go through any unneccessary pain.  From what I hear I won't be to hungry post op and protein shakes and water will be my best friends so I'm stocking up on protein samples.  I guess the closer it gets to my date the more nervous I'm becoming hence all of the questions.

Liquids too soon after eating, especially fats.  Two sips of water after having bacon left me with my head between my knees for 45 minutes.  I wait that full hour before drinking, 45 min at a minimum.

Dumping is like the weather....you just never know.  Generally, if you have RNY it's sugar, fatty, greasy foods, breads.

Something you eat and tolerate today, may send you into dump mode tomorrow.  For me, it's the sugar, the fried food, eggs (sometimes) and milk.

Hello,

First Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. I wish for you a very uneventful day. I have only dumped a few times and every time it was because of something greasy. I don't do well with fried foods at all. Also dumping comes in different forms for me sugars don't cause my stomach to hurt or to vomit but I get the worse headaches ever & I also get very sleepy. Also remember one day it will be greasy food that send you over and the next it could be sugars. So just be prepared for either and try new things at home just in case.

You will not be hungry after surgery so yes keep water and sample pack proteins around. Also sugar-free popsicles, pudding & applesauce. For me it didn't matter if the bad stuff was around or not because I had no desire to touch any of it. I just wasn't hungry at all.

Lastly your going to be nervous that's suppose to happen lol It will be the best nervous you ever experience.

HEY Babe,

First advice is to clean out your house. Get rid of those access fav food. we know what they are. this is definitely a fresh start for your new life. start on the right food. Everyone body is different and different things can make your body unhappy or dump. Cold water made me dump.

Take everything slow and chew your food eating too fast can also make you uncomfortable. Try to eat having a conversation because that paces your food out.

Wishing you a great day and great strides to on your journey!

Dont be nervous... the lord has brought you too far to leave you. We're here for u.

Everyone else covered the dumping part so I'm going to cover another area. You may not experience physical hunger but head hunger will rear it's ugly head and it's hard to get a hold of. You will dream food 24 hrs a day and every other commercial on tv is food I'm not trying to scare you but speak the truth. I wanted food that I didn't even like during the first few weeks. Just keep sipping your water and protein drinks. Add some flavoring to your protein drinks if you don't like them, such as sf syrups that they sell for Starbuck's coffee but I get at TJ Maxx, or add sf koolaid packets to fruit flavored proteins, just don't add the whole packet because it will be too sweet. You will only be able to drink 2-4 ozs at a time at first so don't pu**** I pray for a wonderful surgery experience.
