Morning Yall

Wow this morning run was really hard for me.  When I eat before a run I find it so difficult and I run so much slower.   I got up at 6:30 and ate half a banana and 3 strawberries and I started running at 7:41 and man was I sluggish.

My fastest mile was 11 min and I had to push to get that.   I believe in that theory that your body gives what it has for that day and this day it was an 11min mile so I will take that.  I just wish I could continue running on a empty stomach like I use to but it's not worth it anymore.

We lost a 10K'er  this morning guys,
Heavenlydelight realized the 10K is to much for her right now so she has decided to do the C25K.   Let's keep motivating her to finish that.

Do you guys find run #2 to be more difficult than run 1 or 3.   Even when I first started running I have always had difficulty with that darn second run and this 10K is no exception.   I hate the run 2.   LOL.

Rock On Shontay  You Rock

Do you run on a empty stomach?

I use to run right out of bed, but found out how bad that is for you and so now I try to eat something before I run, but it slows me down and makes me feel yuck.

I am going to keep fiddling around with different foods and see if I can find something lite that gives me enough carbs to burn so I'm not burning muscle.

it may be bad for you, Lee, but i have never been able to run after eating.  i do better on empty, and have something immediately after.

I know I hate eating and running,  even with waiting a hour after I eat I still hate it.
I am just going to have to get use to it though, or maybe i'll get up at 5:30 and eat something go back to sleep and run at 7:30.

Because my body is so efficient, when I run on a empty stomach the whole house smells like ammonia after I run and shower, and when your body smells like ammonia it's because it is using 100% muscles for fuel.    The last thing I want to use for fuel is muscle cause muscle is the fat burner.

I have a few professional runner friends and each one of them has told me if i'm going to run on a empty stomach I may as well not run at all cause i'm doing more damage than good.    It sucks.

So if you start to smell ammonia just know your eating up your muscle.

I had never heard that before. I run on empty, but honestly, even being more than a year out, I still struggle with foods. I've found a system that works for me that keeps my tummy settled throughout the day. If I run with food on my tummy, I might as well go to the potty and induce vomiting instead. The one thing that I have been able to successfully do is take a few bites of a protein bar before I run. Anything more than that is a recipe for an embarrasing moment at the gym for me. No thank you.

I'll have to research this ammonia smell after a run. I'd never heard of that before.

I am taking a sports nutrition class and the professors warned me to cut it out,  I also got my liver checked to make sure it wasn't that.

When you wake up in the morning and start running, there is nothing on your belly so your body uses your muscles cause it has no carb fuel to burn.

Check out this article.  I put the link of the website at the bottom.

Ammonia-Scented Sweat?

By Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am — Filed under:

Releasing ammonia in your sweat is caused by burning protein during your exercise instead of carbohydrates. If you are low are carbs, the body dips into the protein reserves, which means your muscles or whatever protein you ate recently. I’m not a long distance runner, so I have never had a workout that was this intense.

“The smell usually isn’t anything to worry about. But if it persists, you probably aren’t taking in enough carbohydrates. If you emphasize carbohydrates before, during and after running and the ammonia smell is still around, you should get checked out by a physician."

If you have noticed an ammonia smell after exercise, try increasing the percentage of carbohydrates in your diet. If the smell, persists, make sure you talk to your doctor. It might be enticing to know that you are burning off so much fuel that you are dipping into your protein reserves, but it might be a sign of a bigger problem further down the line.

I know what you mean Ziggy,   eating before makes me really sick, that is why I am trying to find a way to put at least a hour in before running after having like a half banana and a few strawberries.   I'm thinking of trying to eat like a half of a english muffin or something like that.

So your ok with having a few bites of a protein bar before a run?   It doesn't feel heavy on your tummy at all?

It depends on how fit you are and how efficient your body is.   Apparently I must be very fit and efficient cause my whole house smells if I don't eat something.
