Sometimes.....I hate talking about it.

Hello.

So....i'm in the hallway at my job, waiting for an elevator, when 3 of my co-workers come out to wait as well.  One mentions "My God, you are just waisting away to nothing, good for you....how are you doing it?"

I swear, I'm glad to be losing weight, and sort of glad of the attention it gets me, but I hate this question.  I don't ALWAYS feel like going into the whole WLS thing with random people.  Granted, if he was alone, I probably would have told him straight up what was going on, but there were other people there, all eyes on me.

I know I shouldn't be ashamed....but at the same time, do I HAVE to give everybody my damn business when they ask?

I just said "I'm at the gym 5x a week, and I eat very little".

I mean, te*****ially I didn't lie.  But after I left, I felt almost bad for witholding the full truth.  Should I feel that way?  I'm 5 months post op, so i'm sure i'll be asked again and again......so how do you all handle it?

I think you gave a great answer!  Now if you and this particular co worker are close and they  have a weight problem as well and he was to ask you again in private feel free to speak up, but no harm no foul.

Hi,

Being that you were in a "group",, my reply to him/her would of been,, "stop by my office later and we'll talk,,  I really don't feel the need to get into it right now". (only if we were "talking" co workers).  If not,, then my reply would be "I'm just doing my thing,, eating right and hanging at the gym".

what's wrong with just smiling and saying politely "yes, I know" end of conversation,  You can always pretend you didn't hear--and totally ignore the part>>"how are you doing it"??  and , no, you don't have to tell folks your business.......but if you want it to spread, just go ahead and tell 1 person.

I'm 2 years out and I still struggle with this.  I don't really have a problem telling people about my surgery, but sometimes I just don't feel like it.

I feel like I'm being dishonest if I don't tell the "whole truth"

That's exactly how I feel.  I don't have a problem talking about it, i'll flat out tell you if we're having a conversation about weight issues or whatnot, Several people at work know, so i haven't tried to keep it a secret.....but sometimes, I just don't feel like going into the whole thing in random conversation.

Since I been doing the weight loss thing for about 4 months before surgery..they always knew, I was trying...So now I say..all my efforts are starting to show..and leave it be...everyone else is just being noisy..now when people approach me one on one..and seriously ask me whats going on...I let them know..mainly because they are struggling with it themselves....but other than that..I walk my cute ass around...and am proud that everyone is looking wondering how the hell i did it

I have a problem with people who other wise would never have spoken to me. I work in a building that's a where house I have worked all shifts at one time or another if I walk by you I will speak to you but after I speak to you a few times and you don't speak back I won't waste my time trying to speak to you again. Now some of these people that can't talk act like we're the best friends and just come out and ask what have you been doing to lose all that weight I tell them stop eating and keep walking
