"I was just being hypothetical" D...........................

that was just funny to me!  because I just know you and your beutiful wife (family) are solid like a rock

My opinion:  If you're married, wear the ring!  If you're not............take it off!  Unless there's some type of emotional connection (like denial) then seek counseling. :)

i would take my ring off if we seperated and divorced..in my mind if we seperating we getting a divorce..none of that lets seperate to evaluate..lol..as for my partner not wearing his ring..he's a tool and die guy so he doesn't wear his ring every day..when he comes home and we go out he puts it on..sometimes he forgets..heck i forgot to put mine back on one day when i had it in the cleaner..

It is better to be motivated by the souls hunger rather than the egos greed.

Doug,

If I got mad every time hubby took off his ring in the past 19 years I would just "Live Mad", and that's no way to live.  We never played the "Ring Game" - I took it off so I must be mad at you.  If we have issues we discuss them and the rings don't matter.  Believe me when we have issues we see each others smoke signals from miles away - seeing a missing ring is the least of our worries.

Now I have always worn my ring - I love it and it looks good on my hand.  He does not really like rings but will wear it when we are out.  I never felt like he was hiding me when he takes it off.  He knows who he's married to and why.  We really never played into the whole symbolism of it all.

If we were to divorce I would stop wearing it and probably give it to my daughter or just toss it in the back of the jewelry box.

Glad to hear this is a hypothetical question

Great post...

1. I stopped wearing mine when it was obvious we were heading to court.

2. I was not offended when he stopped wearing his - which was well after I stopped; to be honest, I was actually relieved, since it was obvious we were DONE!

3. Where is my ring, anyway!? LOL! Hmm...wonder if he took it and pawned it for some change?

4. My next one is going to be a doozie!!! LOL!

Thanks for the post, "Dug"!

I choose to love myself, live life to the fullest, and encourage others to liberate themselves!

This is Jon, Madame’s husband. From time to time she shares some of your topics with me and on occasion, she allows me to voice and share my own views on a topic of conversation.

I have never been a ring person. They are not only uncomfortable to me in the extreme, they have proven to be downright hazardous in some my endeavors. Plus... I could misplace my own skin if I could set it down, so my ring has a special box it normally resides in.

So when we were married, I tried to wear my ring, which made my own issues with my hands worse, and at one point the ring literally slipped from my finger while working on a project at work, in a situation where the chance of finding it again was a very slim possibility. The sheer terror I felt when I realized it was missing was crippling, but I manned up and told her what had transpired - and she was actually cool about it, because she knew the issues I had with rings and that I took our then brand new marriage seriously. It was found several months later, but that situation established some very important point about our marriage:

The marriage is manifested, not in a few ounces of metal, but in our hearts. During our wedding it was our union that was to be blessed by God... the rings were, to be frank, beside the point for us.

The rings are symbols, and while symbols are important, what they represent must be more important, for without it, the symbol means nothing.

Ring off, ring on - we both still married to each other. I know I'm married, and any mistaken assumption  that I am available has always been immediately and unequivocally corrected, by me, without delay. In fact, the few times such a correction had to be made; I was in fact, wearing my ring. Go figure.

Now... I understand others do not share our POV, and I do respect that. But if not wearing my ring is to be evidence of problems in our relationship, or of the demise of our union - somebody forgot to tell us, or our rings, because 19 years later we are stronger a couple than ever, and getting stronger every day. My marriage is forged our love and respect for each other, and is worth more to us than a few ounces of gold.
Even in this economy.

Doug -- I wear my rings everyday, but I take them off every night, just can't sleep in rings.  My husband only wears his band on the weekends -- he does not wear it on the job.

After 32 years of marriage, I don't really think about the rings anymore.

Hmm..when does one stop wearing a ring? How about when the fingers get too fat, that was one of my many reasons other than separation.
