A lot of the profiles and stuff that I read mention something about a 'drain site'. Can anyone please tell me what that is, and what it drains? People say they have it removed and everything, but I am just so lost as to what all that means! Please help!

Also I wanted to know if they put a catheder in you or not? I heard that some people just went to the restroom before surgery and after surgery (it helps get you up and walking). I just wanted to know about those two questions! Thanks OH fam!!!

When my surgeon closed my incision she left in a tube to drain the excess digestive fluids from the disconnected part of my stomach.  It was fairly small and soft.  Not too bad.  She also allowed us to use it as a port to inject extra water if we were having problems drinking it.  I haven't heard of any other doctors who do this, but it was a Godsend for me.  When she pulled it, the pain wasn't any worse than taking off a bandaid.

I had a catheter that was removed the day after surgery when they knew I could use the restroom without problems.

I had a catherder they put it in after I was knocked out.

The drain site is where that little bubble that sucks out blood tube exits the body.  It's the little hole the tube comes out of,  the drains are the little bubble bottles that suck the blood and fluid out.

My explanation sucks,  but I hope you get what i'm saying.   Someone can explain it better.

My daughter and I each had drains.  It allows excess fluid as a result of the procedure to drain outwards rather than collect within.  For both of us it was completely painless.  Before discharge they literally just pull it out.  I felt nothing.  My daughter felt a wiered sensation like a piece of string dragged accross your skin but on the inside.

Neither of us had a catheter.

Hello, pleasure to meet you, I am Dtray....Darwin.

Yes, there is a catheter put in, or atleast there was for me. And as others have mentioned the drain site is where they put a tube that sucks out the extra drainage/fluids. Honestly I can't remember how long mines stayed in. But it was longer than I wanted it to. I also had what was called a G-tube. I've not heard of many having that. I was able to be fed and get in fuids through that. After a while both "tubes" got on my nerve. As for the Catheter.........Urgghhhhh!!!!!!!!! No fun at all.
