10K UnderWay. Week 2, Run 1. WOW 7 Runs yeeeeaaa boy

I ran after work this evening.  Am I the only person who was struggling today?  It seemed so hard to do today!  But, I pushed through and didn't stop.  Hopefully the next one will go better.  Oh, wait!  Lee, you mentioned 7 runs instead of 5.  Should I have been walking when the beat changed?  I thought I was just supposed to run a slower pace?  and then pick up the pace when beat changes again?  HELP!  I ran the whole thing. Umm, and there was no 9 minute miles going on here!  I did listen to the coach at the end and was feeling the advice to settle into a rhythm and just keep going.

The sunscreen subliminal was a mess. I was thinking, OK if this dude starts chanting some stuff I don't understand, he's going to get switched to some hip-hop!

On-to-the-next-one,

You are to start with a warm up walk which is like 5 min
Then you run for 4 min walk for the two.  You should be doing brisk walks in between the runs,  that is why it was so hard because it was a hard run/walk and you ran the whole thing.

It was actually 6 runs but I always run the last one instead of a walk so that is how I got 7 runs out of it.   Cause I don't like doing a walk and then a cool down.

I was exhausted also,  I slept for a good hour and a half.   If your not sure of the walk/run switch over go to podrunner.com and listen to the instructions podcast to be sure.  You don't want to wear yourself out.   Like coach Jenny said at the end of the workout today you don't want it to be so unpleasant you stop.

HEY DON'T FORGET TO PUT ON THAT SUNSCREEN.    LOL.

Good for you!  I prefer running outside to the treadmill.  If I am desperate, I will run on the treadmill, but the outdoors is for me!

thanks gatormom, i always feel self-conscious running outside because of the traffic.  i might as well get used to it tho, if i want to continue running.  besides, the time went by so fast because my mind was trying to keep up with the beat and take in the scenery.

Running outside is always harder,  but this week 2 was just a challenging,  screw that, it was a hard run.  lol.

I can tell that this program is not going to be any kind of joke because week 2 and i'm like OH HELL YEA !!!

Even though it's tough you did it Shontay,  you rocked it and that is all that matters.

The runs were very difficult for me. I could not get all 6 runs in at the speed I am working on. I may have to graciously bow out for now and start over after I complete C25k.

I was finishing up week 3 of C25k right before we started this. I had began that program again to work on increasing my speed to a 10 minute mile. I cant keep that pace with this 10k and I don't want to go any slower.

Last week after the 1st run was so difficult, I noticed I was putting off doing them and messing up my schedule and I don't want this to become a chore for me. When I didn't run on Sunday, I knew there was a problem. I ALWAYS run on Sundays, even when the rest of the week goes to **** my Sunday run is always in. Like starting my day with a good breakfast.

I am going to start back at week 3 of the C25k and when I finish that then I will begin this 10k program.

You are such a great motivator. Thanks.

Morning Heavenly Delight

I didn't realize you were on week 3 of C25K when taking on this run.   Your right,  I don't think your ready for this quite yet.   I did the C25K and the C28K before I took it on and this week 2 is still a challenge for me.    If I had known you were at the beginning of the C25K I would have discouraged you from attempting this.

I actually think you can do this, because your running a 10 min mile,  but you would have to give up speed for duration, which you would get back quickly.

I encourage you to go back and complete the C25K or 8K, and gradually move up to this, but at that speed your definately ready for at least the 8K.  Don't be afraid of losing speed,  the most important thing right now is duration and getting your lungs and heart stronger.

Thanks for trying and don't stop running.    If I can be a runner anyone can.

Hey Lee

I did week 3 day 1 of the C25K last night. I feel so much better now. I was dreading each time I got on the treadmill for the 10k.

I completed the C25K back in May '09 but my time was so slow that I am doing it again to increase my speed. I felt that if I continued on with the 10k program, I would have to do so at a much slower pace and my goal is to do 10 minute miles.

Once I finish the C25K this time around, I will move right onto the 10k.

Do you have the Nike +?
I read they dont lastlong becuase the battery is not re chargable nor is it replaceable. Most reviews say you would have to purchase a new unit ebout every 2 months.
Do you like it?
Is it worth having to replace it often?
