Unfriggenbelievable

O.K.  I have this co-worker/friend who is the only person on the job who I confided in about wls.  She is also overweight and she's really short so she appears to be heavier than she actually is and when I was waiting on surgery she checked her BMI and it was too low for her to get wls.  She often made comments like I wish that "I was big enough for the surgery"  WTF?  At that point she could have lost about 40lbs and that would have been good (not saying that 40lbs. is nothing but it's not much when you compare it to 100+)

Anyway since I've become something of a gym rat I've been trying to get her to go with me since she already had a membership that we got together about 2 years ago but of course she gives all sorts of excuses why she can't go during lunch so I stopped asking and she finally canceled her membership.  I thought this was weird because she's always talking about losing weight.  How the hell she expects to lose it without working out was beyond me. since I've been loosing weight she's been making comments that make me uncomfortable.  For example whenever people are around she always has to make a comment about my weight loss and I really tried my best not to think of it negatively, but I really hate that she's bringing so much attention to me....I just want to lose my weight without the fanfare.

Now I'm just about 10 mos post-op and she's gained a considerable amount of weight in the meantime.
So out of nowhere she just randomly blurts out look how skinny she got to no one in particular and then when it was just the 2 of us she says, I've been working on it and my BMI is high enough now .  What!  Who the hell would intentionally gain weight in order to have wls.

It's crazy, she's been gaining weight secretly in order to qualify, I'm stupefied.
IDK

alot of people do that cause they know they cant get to where they want to be on their on so if it takes 20 more pounds to gain in order to have the surgery  then thats what they do. people in my support group admitted to it.

First of all, when an overweight individual like herself draws attention to how skinny you'vve gotten it draws bigger attention to how f#4kin huge she may be. In my book, that's called jealousy she's a stupid Bit@#$. I had a co-worker just like her and she recently had the surgery. Prior to that, she dogged me out badly in front of everyone and I never turned around and did that **** to her.

Secondly, I have a sister who is gaining weight to have wls because one of her best friend had Gastric Bypass and the other friend lost it on her own. And, I mind you 30-40lbs and she'd be straight. She doesn't want to be the fat one in the group now. It's not like us who was well over 100lbs or more that really had to struggle.

Pink I just don't understand.  Yes the surgery helps a lot but you still need to work out.

Damn straight. I've gained from not working out at the gym but I work 10-12 hour shifts 5 days a week so truly I can't fit in a time. I am knocked out on the weekend. I'm about to hit the road again.

I can understand her doing that.  Desperate times calls for desperate measures.  She was in a catch 22:Obese & couldn't lose on her own, but not obese enough to qualify for the surgery???   I would have done the same thing, if I had been in her shoes.

It sucks that she has been passive aggressive with you in regards to her pointing out your weight loss to the public.  But you are on the loosing end, which is where she desperately wants to be.

Maybe I don't quite understand.  She only needed to lose 40lbs to be where she wanted to be.  She weighed under 200 lbs.  Had she gone to the gym with me she would have lost the weight instead of intentionally eating everything she sees.  Her BMI was like 33. which is just about where I am.

I find it utterly ridiculous.

I still say don't knock her.
Could you have just 'easily' dropped 40lbs working out before you had WLS?
I know of a few people that gained on purpose to qualify for surgery. I even had one lady I know who wore ankle weights under her clothes at the doctor so the weight that qualified her would get documented and sent on to insurance. When I made up my mind to have WLS I was just about that desperate to get it done, believe me.
