Hopefully this is not a scare tactic to keep folks from being happy with whom they love.... I could see a big law suit; hopefully they can will enough money to live happily ever after....

What'd you expect?  It's the dirty south.  Those yahoo's down there probably still have some "crakka-types" who are still waiting to exhale that slavery miraculously came back

IMO...this judge needs to be unseated.  I hesitate to think about the folks he has sentenced!  Hell...he better change his mind real quick because I can see...mofos...grabbing a temporary mate running down there to get a piece of the action by getting their refusal...yes a lawsuit is definitely on the horizon.

Honestly, I thought it was a joke when I first heard it on the news, but low and behold it's actually true....you still have some true rednecks and back wood folks in this day and age...I can't believe he is still a practicing judge --- I can see him being suing over and over...they will probably take his license..how can the state of Louisiana get away with this?

I do not condone this guys behavior at all. However, let me clarify something, a justice of the peace is not a "judge."  It is an "elected" position.  I am a notary and I am allowed to marry couples. I wish they lived in my area I would do it in a hearbeat.  People tend to have stereotypes regarding Louisianans  anyway and this surely does not help matters.

Thanks for the clarification Faith! I forgot you are a Louisianan! I have never been to Louisiana or Texas, I heard some really racial things about both states...I've always wanted to attend the Marti Gras down there, but I not sure now....but I know they have some good people there, but I still can't beleive there is overt racism in 2009.

Faith I am notary also and didn't have any idea I could marry couples. .. hmmmm possible side hustle for me now.

I also want to comment in reagrds to the stereotypes of the "SOUTH". Racist people are EVERYWHERE, in some areas it may be more outspoken than some.

Look at how many racist remarks have been spoken in regards to our current President.  And what part of the country do the Harvard Professor preside that was arrested??? Racism is EVERYWHERE..

Point well taken.  I don't know if you can marry couples in Texas.  In Louisiana, I signed up under a "church" and I am able to marry couples. I have yet to advertise to do it yet though.  I need to work on my hustle this coming year too.
