OT: A project I want to do - but I'm scared (yea, I said it)
Hey Baby Girl, I have not read any other post but I speak from my heart. Get rid of the fear. I know you can do that ....yousa a trooper. Secondly, what you want to do is priceless and needs to be addressed in any venue because it effects people period. Use the one with the HR person as a stepping stone.. Make it happen at the HBCU. They need you. I went to school in your area...Both of the schools off Wheeler Avenue I needed that info way back then so I know they need it even more now. Baby if I was in H-Town right now, I would be dragging you to every church that would open their doors to school the folk. You have many arenas to work from. WOrk yo Jelly honey I believe that is why GOD gave it to you.
Having a daughter that is a freshman in college I think this is a great idea. Since her school only has 7% black population and alot of those are athletes, I told her to join the Black Student Association first so that she would have a common place to go. She did that on FB during the summer and she loves it. They have all kinds of seminars. This would be a great seminar for an organization like that. I really think it's needed and I applaud your desire and following your heart with this project.
I did this when I became a speaker on fibromyalgia. I had studied and taken classes on the subject and a church volunteered it's space for me to give presentations and I would advertise in the newspaper and wouldn't charge but had a donation jar because I gave out lots of handouts during my presentations. It was successful and I even was invited by the hospital to speak on fibromyalgia and teach their physical therapists.
You can do this and be successful . NO FEAR !!!!!!

This is something that is so needed because like you I have found so many young people unprepared for the professional world. It is evident by their interviews, attitudes, speech, lack of work ethic and even more who simply have problems assimilating due to lack of exposure to professionals/role models. etc.
Go ahead MM teach the babies how to deal with the bull****z games in the workplace so they can get on and stay on the fast track.
Change is a Process Not an Event
Me personallly, sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet...
I wouldn't give them little raggamuffins up at those HNICs nuttin but a swift kick in the pants seat and then tell 'em that's one to grow on.
SiKE...
just playin.
Your idea does sound great! Hey
you may want to reach out to an African-American celebrity or two and see if they would love to be a part of it in it's budding stages, that way they can feel like they are giving back too and you can use their name to open a few closed doors. Hey it works for me. I just tell 'em I know #1 Mack Momma, Shani aka Star Jones, and Birdman Doug from BAF and you should see them ninjas trippin over themselves to fall in line.
Fight the good fight, Homie.

Go for it! If I were you I would start at the "traditional school". I know from personal experience that going to an HBCU will be tough to get their attention. I went to an HBCU (Morris Brown College in ATL). It was fun and that's all it was for the first two years, it was just like being in high school!
My advice to you when you do go to the HBCU would be to either partner with a professor who will give their students extra credit for their attendance or partner with a sorority who will have function in your honor. I'm an AKA and at Morris Brown we had all kinds of speakers come in and when we put the AKA name on it, everybody showed up.
Oh, one last thing...bring food, college students love to eat!

Now you know I'm gonna say pray about it first, then ask God where you need to be and then say Lord open that door for me. I feel your services are needed everywhere, maybe more in general than at HBCU. I feel often times out Blacks students tend to get a false sense of security when in the general or white schools. Go forth and lead those who are lost.
