I eliminated the ds for a number of reasons but all wls can work well for you. You need to know what you want to accomplish in addition to shedding fat. Will the surgery help you resolve your attitude towards food (is that even as issue fo you)? Will metabolic issues be better served by one over another? How important is the quantity you can eat, do you want to be able to eat more or is it important to be able to eat smaller controlled portions. What about things like gas, bowel habits, dumping, foamies, diarreah etc.
Look beyond wl alone and do not let go through with any wls untill you are certain of what you want. I said no to rny years ago and now I would not change my rny for anything in the world.

LV'N MY RNY. WORKING FOR ME BECAUSE I WORK FOR IT.
The DS was the way to go for me. I had the Vertical banded gastroplasty 22 years ago which was the "experiment" that turned into today's Lap band. It was a nitemare for all 22 years and I managed to eat myself up to over 400 lbs at one point.(despite throwing up and food getting stuck) I was 354 when i had my revision in january. I wish they had all these options 20 years ago but i am grateful to God for this second chance. That is why I did so much research b4 making my choice. This was going to be the second and Last time someone "cut" this sistah. (Well, I hope to get da tummy tucked when I hit goal). Also, the long term studies on keeping off the weight attracted me. I had read waaaaaay too many posts of RNY folks dealing with regain. I see very little of that on the DS board. LOL Most of them be trying to gain some weight. Now that would be a real novelty in my life. I have lost 111 lbs in 9 months which is very good for a revision at my age.(1/2 way to goal of 135) The DS was a better choice for me also because even though they cut away a portion of your stomach, you still have a functioning stomach, as opposed to a "pouch". I need to take NSAIDS (ibuprophen mostly) and you cannot do that with a RNY. The DS issues (gas, diarrhea) that scare most people are no different than the RNY issues(dumping). You still have to be diligent about what you eat. If i eat white fllour or pasta, I will get gas. if I don't, no gas!!! if I eat too much butter, oil, grease I will have diarrhea (no joke) but I suffered with constipation for so many years I actully prefer not to strain.
My brother, I have read your posts. I feel i can safely say that you are intelligent. You also profess a relationship with the one who knows what is best for all of us at every point in our lives. You also know how to get in touch.
The steps of a good Man (Micah) are ordered by the LORD.
In all thy ways (Micah) acknowledge Him and He will direct thy (Micah's) path. When you have that peace Micah, you will know. This decision is no different than any other in your life. You know Whose you are!!!!!He got ya!!! I am claiming victory and agreeing with you for whichever surgery you choose.
Peace
Jo
I had the DS and am very happy. I got to my goal very easily, with no complications. I love the freedom of the DS.
And its not too late. I've seen many on the DS board have a RNY date and change up at the last minute.

94 Lbs down...6 more to go...changed goal to see Onderland for a hot second!
At the time the RNY procedure was insisted upon by my doctor because I was the fastest way to reduce my co-morbidities. I had a ton of them (hypertension, heart attack, diabetes, etc... that were trying to send your boy to an early grave but I had other plans instead.
If i had to do it all over again, I would definitely go with the RNY, but this time I wouldn't buy into the hype (i.e. B_S) that the surgery would continue to make me lose weight regardless of what I ate afterward. Instead I think I'd chase the person down the street who started me believing that
"gaw-bidge" and kick them in the back of the neck with a steel boot for talking so stupid. As a matter of fact, let me go look for that punk now...
