Vitamin D deficiency

Hello Family!

Just had my 18 month checkup on Tuesday!   I am only 34.8 lbs away from goal!!!  I am so excited.  I have lost a total of 149 lbs.   However, I got a call this morning stating that they were reviewing my labs and overlooked the fact that I had a Vit D deficiency.  They are prescribing a high dosage supplement that I will take for 6 weeks.  Then I will regularly take a supplement daily along with my mulitvitamin.  Has anyone else had this issue?  also, If you did, were there any symptoms?

Thanks for any help!

Blessing,

Bee

Hi bbzballn,

I just found out also that my Vitamin D count was very low from my pcp.  My surgeon didn't require me to take a vit D supplement.  Congrats on your weight loss.

My D3 is low. I think the minimum is a 12 and mine's is 8. The doc told me to take D3 supplements and if I test low again, he will give me a script.

I felt really tired and drain. Here's an article that you may find helpful:

Good luck!

Wonkad,

Your surgeon office didn't require you to take the Vit D either?

Nope. Not at all.

My multi and calcium vits have a combined 800 IUs alone. I now added an extra 2000 IUs of D3 to kick it up a notch.

I need to add that I was already at risk for calcium/D issues since I hit surgical menopause seven years ago.

Wow... I don't understand why they don't push vit D like they do iron, calcium and B12.

thank you ladies for your responses... I forgot to add that my reading came back as 3.  Maybe that is why I am required to take the supplement...

I had this too.

My GYN told me that black women are especially susceptible to Vitamin D deficiency and that she recommends supplements to all of her black patients.
