Have WLS ever made you feel bad or sad?
You can't predict how people are going to react when they see you at the wedding. All you can do is to try to make sure your sister is at the center of attention on her big day.
It's a beautiful thing to feel compassion for somebody else because you see they are unhappy with their weight, but you should not feel guilty because you've been given this opportunity to be healthy.
My bad, I was on some other type sh*t when I read this post. I am preggo (first baby) I was gonna write that I do feel bad with RNY because my pouch is very firm and I cant eat sh*t I crave. But seeing that most of this is size and clothes related. I have had the "Ashley Stewart" experience. before surgery i was too damn big to fit their clothes. I was limited to the Avenue. I was knocking on a size 30. Now when I go in there, I feel like an intruder. Sales people asking me do I know the size of my "friend" I always say it for me and get the goofy look. I love their tops.
Since 2/12/08. I have went from 364 to 210. Thank You RNY!
No More PCOS, had my first baby 04.24.10!
My Life is wonderfully full because of my tool! (RNY)
Howdy,
Short and simple....YES. I'll try to keep it short
From my (and probably someone elses) experience, I have found that when the time to bring the attention is appropriate, it never happens, but the second that it isn't, that is when it does happen and both scenarios can play head games with you.
I remember an incident that I let bother me to the point of complete starbucks coffee icecream sabatoge after my lapband. One of my Uncles had passed away and the night of, many of us had gathered at my Cousins home just to be there for support. I felt like all eyes were on me the whole time as remark after remark after remark (although good ones) came regarding my weight loss. I felt very awkward and later bad as I noticed that it got old real quick for those there who still had weight issues. Then of course one of my size 6 Aunts just HAD to tell another cousin that HE should do what "I" did to lose
the weight. I wasn't prepared for all of that and later sabatoged myself due to that and other awkward incidents.
Once again, I am beginning hear the comments at the most inappropriate times, but I was prepared this time. My ex-sister-in-law had a going back to college dinner for my neice a month ago, WHYYYY did my mother after I stood up sit right at the dinner table and announce "Isn't Quettia getting small?
She's smaller than US NW". (I gave her the look) and later asked her to NOT draw any attention to me. To me it all sounds as if those around me are somehow making it seem as if THEY are the ones giving me the permission to be healthier and smaller in size and if I am not careful it would be true, but I am not allowing it this time.
Lemme quit ramling, but I do understand where you are coming from. Expect the unexpected. I also hope and pray that you can get through the event and that people will allow your Sister and new Brother-in-law to shine on their special day. Now that you are prepared, I'm sure that you will be able to maneuver any situation that may arise. If someone mentions your weightloss at an appropriate time, comment back with something lovely about the wedding, they will get the gist. Congrats to them.

I've never felt guilty about my WLS. The overweight people I know have the same resources to have WLS so it's their choice to remain obese. If they are not ready do take control of their weight... that's them... if they are feeling bad... that's them. They will do something when they are ready and it shouldn't have anything to do with how I look or how much I've lost. Hopefully they will realize you set out to make your life better not make them miserable.
