I've been sorting through the obesityhelp website for a couple of days and now and it seems like all of the big resutls have  been from the GOP surgery. I personally want the Realize Band and am scheduled to have it on 10-13-09 b ut at this point I'm just wondering if its really going to work. I guess I should stop looking at the progress from the GOP. I know that Lap Band will be slow and thats why I chose it I suppose.  I just want to find a band success story where the person was able to lose atleast 80 ibs the first year.

Left the band and rocking with RNY.

Since everyone loses at their own rate, all I can tell you that I will be 1 year out on october 7th and I'm down 57 pounds.  I hope to lose 3 more so that my 1 year mark will be 60 pounds.  My doctor and nutritionist told me to only expect 30-40 pounds in the first year, so I feel I'm doing great.  If you want it off faster, you should try one of the other more invasive WLS.  You already know the band is going to be slow, so if you can't wait, try something else.  Me personally??  I love my band, and I don't have that much restriction!!  My doc is conservative and I have only 4.5 cc's in a 10 cc band after 3 fills in 1 year.  That's my story and I"m sticking to it!  LOL.  Good luck and God Bless!

Thanks for the info. You're right, I need to understand what it is designed to do and why I want it. I've seen both surgeries and I just don't want to wake up one morning looking like a stranger. I don't want the lose skin issues either. I didn't have any in the past when I've lost weight so I don't know if I could deal with that. I just need to stay focused on the goals one at a time and not think I can go straight from A to Z.

Slower wl does not mean less loose skin.  Fingers crossed your genetics will keep the skin tight.  I've lost slowly and have far more skinissues than I expected.  Best of luck making thtn final deision.

I don't know much about the band, as I had RNY but there are several successful bandster's here.  Everyone's rate of loss is different.  Is your doctor stating that you can realistically lose 80lbs in a year with the band?

Again....I don't know much, but there are forums that can possibly provide more insight.  Best of luck to you.

Oh honey you need to visit the LapBand board.  There are several people that have lost 100 lbs in a year or less.  Some of the big losers I think of off the top of my head are Bette B-she is on my friend's list, check out her profile.  She has lost 200 lbs in less than 2 yrs and has maintained that loss for yrs.  Jean is a regular posterr with lots of great advice and she lost 90-100 lbs, there is Krista who is a workout machine.  There are plenty of successful Bandsters out there, you just need to look for them inthe right place.

Now I'm not sure how much you want to lose, if you have much over 100 lbs to take off be prepared for the weight loss to be a SLOW process.

Good luck.

I lost 80 lbs in my first 9 months with my band.  That's the good news.  Unfortunately, I had complications with my band (not able to tolerate fills, throwing up all the time, constantly getting filled and unfilled) so I was unfilled for 4 months and gained 30 lbs back.  So I had a revision to RNY.  I chose the band because it was slower and adjustable so I understand the reasons, but I wish I would have had RNY all along. Just my journey.

I'm just wondering, was it difficult to get the revision with your insurance. I have BCBS and I'm hoping that if it were to come down to it, I wouldn't be left with nothing if the band had to come out for any reason.
