"I would have taken that to the counselor, the minister, my support, and the grave.  That's just me."

Therrrrrrre you go.  I feel the exact same way. My thought, after reading the news report was God and the Grave.

Disclaimer: not being religious, just sharing the story of Joyce Meyer as an example that she shared to the world.)

Minister Joyce Meyer is soooooooooo respected by me by the simple fact that she has been able to get it in the open regarding her father who has since found God himself.

Personally I have always thought that three life shattering issues, predjudice, sexual abuse, and drunk driving are the three top social issues that have been swept under the rug, accepted, and tolerated for so long that there is just no way to even begin to unravel the entanglement. Whenever the subjects come up, humanity can only attempt to touch the surface.

That's the problem, she didn't have anyone to turn to.  She wasn't raised in church, ALL of the adults surrounding her were in the drug culture & I don't think she really found people that she could trust until she was cast in "one day at a time".

My mother & at least one of her sisters were sexually abused by a few of their older brothers.  My mom recounted a story about coming across my aunt being raped by another of her brothers.  She watched & then backed away?  Why, because she was still being raped by another brother on a consistant basis, so if she didn't know how to reach out for help for herself, she wasn't in the position to help someone else.  Knowing what my aunts & some other relatives have been through has truly taught me "not to judge others' as the bible states, because you don't know that person's back story.  By the Grace of God, My mom never turned to drugs, but her sister did and the family has never judged her for that.

Howdy,
this is why I have always thought that  predjudice, sexual abuse, and drunk driving are the three top social issues that have been swept under the rug, accepted, and tolerated for so long that there is just no way to even begin to unravel the entanglement. I mean that in reference to society, not those that have been victimized. I am deeply disturbed and feel bad for what happened with your mother and aunts as I am with all instances that I have heard of.

I have a very good friend who told me her story of sexual abuse from her father and said that when she tried to tell her mother about it that her mother's response was "if she ever walk in on it that she'd kill them both", so my friend spent her teen years running away from home and finally became emancipated at age 16. Her father was one of those highly regarded men in our small community.

I had another good friend (deceased) who was gay. While everyone was busy calling him a sissy and *** he shared with my sister who was writing a college report on homosexuality about how he and his brothers were abused by an uncle from as early as he could remember. He was gay, one brother dealt with drug abuse for all of his life, and the third brother lived in the mental hospital. All three are now deceased. Same uncle, same abuse, different outcomes for the three.

Everyone who has had the sad misfortune of experiencing sexual abuse is so different in regards to the cir****tances surrounding their abuse that there is no way under the sun that I would dare to judge, so if my response came off in that manner I apologize. I was just sharing my thoughts which could be and probably are totally wrong as a person who hasn't walked in their shoes. As I said, I believe Ms. Phillips story, but the window of doubt is there due to the "cir****tances" . Perhaps I shouldn't have said anything, but the world as a whole has been quiet for too long on this topic as it continues to wreak havoc and wreck lives. It puts everyone into brain overload, these stories are literally mind blowing.

Thanks for the clarification.    You are right, sexual abuse is still taboo as a subject, but is even more rampant than before.  This is so sad, as so many incorrectly blame themselves for what happened, especially if it's incestous abuse involving parents, siblings or aunts/uncles.

the devil  (in the form of her daddy) was a master manipulator....mind alterer.......demented.........spirit.   Bet there's so many other women in the closet about things like this...hopefully, in spite of how revealing she was, it will help someone. It seems most things like that only happen in religious cults where the demons are in total control of the woman. Beyond sick & demented!  whew lawd......just way too much for my brain..............

I hear ya.  I couldn't deal with something like this if I were in Oprah's audience that day.  I'd have to leave her taping of the show that day - probably a first for an Oprah guest to do (most folk be thinking, "This is interesting but is she gonna do free things today!")

wonder what kind of gifts Op-Dawg would be giving that day? I'd have to take my chances and step on your heels getting outta there.  when they panned the audience and i was looking like this they'd probably ask me to step on out anyway.
