Runner's I need help

Throughout the summer I've been doing the couch to 5k program off and on.  Since then my biggest accomplishment was a straight 20 min run, that was about 3 weeks ago.  Since then I haven't been able to do it again and it's frustrating.
The best I can do is a 10 min run and then I have to walk for 2 mins or so and start back but sometimes I just can't start back up and it's not because I'm winded or anything.  I'm bored out of my mind and I just can't find the motivation to push my self out of my comfort zone my mind just starts to concentrate on the discomfort.

So tell me what do you think about when running?
How do you stay motivated when your body is telling you to quit?

BTW: I only made it through week 6 in the program because the music was starting to get sucky.

I haven't started running on the street yet, but I've logged a few miles on the tread mill these past few months.  My mind starts to wonder and I also get bored, IF I don't have my walkman.  Even with it, I can get bored if I don't have the "right" music.

I find it extremely easier when I run in cadence to a song.  I started out running about 130 beats per minute (BPM) and now top out at 160+.  I got songs on my walkman that start out at about 150 bpm and end up at 165 bpm.

You can Google podrunner and/or motion traxx.  They got free downloadable songs for running and working out.  Also, since then, I downloaded a program from download.com that lets one change the tempo of any song.  Don't remember the name, but you can Google music tempo changer and you should be able to find a host of such programs on the web.

So, I can take my favorite R&B song, or hip hop and speed it up (or slow it down) so I can run in cadence to it.  Hell, I can run all night as long as I'm in cadence.  I guess that's from years of running in formation while in the Marines.  It works for me.  Just my 2/100.  Good luck with it!!

I know my music is part of my problem because I usually listen to neo soul and the tempo isn't fast enough.  I guess it's time to listen to some dance music. lol

I hope I don't sound dense but how do you find the bpm of a song?  Is there a program that does it?

Thanks for chiming in.

Yep, there are a few ways to check tempo.  Some are more reliable than others.  There is a database (bpmdatabase.com).  It has several thousand songs but there's a chance it may not have the song you want.  There are also programs to try.  You can try mixmeister.com and download a program.  There is also the hand tap method.  It's like taking pulse.  You tap for 15 seconds and multiply by 4.  And there's the old trusty metronome.  Member those from band class??

I use a program called cute MP3 Cutter.  It has several features in one.  I have several long mix dance songs that go on for over an hour.  I use the program to cut the songs down to 5-10 minute segments.  This program does not have a tempo counter, but it can speed and slow down songs.  I normally speed the song up and just use the hand tap method to come out to about 160 bpm.  I'm normally right but it takes a little getting used to.  I don't know until I get on the treadmill.  You can google mp3 cutter.  It's a free program.

Hope that helps.  Now get your @zz on that street and beat some feet!!!!!  LOL.  Stay motivated

I think you answered your own question perfectly........I'm bored out of my mind

It's time for a new flava of body movement.  Entertain your mind and body with some Zumba, stepping or get in the water.........It's All Good

I actually would like to like running, it's mini goal of mine to run a 5k so I need to find a way to make it more pleasure able.
I take many classes; boot camp, reggae workout, step, etc.....tried zumba (hated it).

Thanks for the input.

1.  Find music that is going to make you want to run,if you want to run for 20 minutes, make sure you have 20 minutes of good music

2.  Get comfortable with a set time, then add a minute, get comfortable with that, then decrease a minute, it will seem easier, then add 2 minutes, get comfortable, before you know it you will have built up endurance and will be running longer than you ever thought was possible.  If you not a runner, you cant and should not try to go from 10 minutes to 20 minutes.

Oh yeah, I also discovered some treadmills have a decline feature.  It gives the effect of running down hill.  This might be helpful IF endurance is an issue.

Bordem is my biggest issue with running.   When I started running I posted many threads on how bored I was and it is really hard to get past that.    Sometimes it doesn't matter how good the music is, it is still boring.

A lot of times I think of an outfit or a person I want to see me thin or even Becca's mom who delights in my failure.    I think of things like that and it helps me a little for a little while.

I had to stop running everyday because I just want to fall to the ground and fall asleep.
