Does exercising really help you lose weight?

If you want a decent looking body I say exercise, especially if your doing protein trains because you lose a ton of muscle doing that so you may lose weight but you are eating up your muscle like crazy.
I exercise for my health only not for size cause it really doesn't make me lose weight if anything it puts weight on me.
That's just how MY body works.
exercising tells the body 'hey - I'm doing a bunch of stuff - I need food for energy!'
when you don't exercise - your body is still burning fuel - but if you drop your calories too low - you will push your body into starvation mode and the weight you are losing will most likely be muscle your body is burning - not fat.
In addition - no one maintains an extreme calorie deficiet diet for long and as soon as you increase your intake - your body 'auto' turns it into fat because it's trying to safeguard itself for the next time calories are severely deficient.
So - yes - it does help you lose and maintain.

That is a interesting article Phyllis, I saw them talking about this on GMA or the Today show. I agree with the study to a point, but I still think people should workout even if they don't lose weight, workout for health.
When i'm trying to drop some weight I workout more, I don't lose weight, but I will lose inches. I eat healthy 6 days a week and eat m&m's on Sundays, even when I don't eat the m&m's it is still really really difficult for my body to drop weight.
Some people just have bodies that are resistant to weight losee, I am definately one of those.
Becca doesn't workout at all and she is coming up on her 7th year and she maintains her skinny body by doing nothing. It drives me crazy.

I cannot loose fat without exercise. My metabolism is far too slow for that. Besides, I want my heart to stay strong. I have to sustain 60-70% of my max heart rate for an hour continously at least five times a week.
Regardless of how much exercise I get I have to be careful with the carbs. Fiber is the only carb source that does not interfere with my wl. I burn at least 1000 cal a day working out but if I eat poorly, even if the calories are low, I have screwed myself when it comes to fat loss.
I won't loose this fat without exercising daily and carefully watching my carb intake.
