Me and my love are planning to have a baby. We are planning to begin the 1st of January. I am wondering about success stories.

I have my wls on 06/18/07 and went from 275 to 160lbs. I am currently 38 years old.

I dont want to sound naive or anything but am I too old to be trying to have a baby. I already have 3 and had them via c-section.

Advice needed.

Thanks in advance

Celeste,

I really can't give you advice on whether YOU are too old to have a baby. I can only tell you my experience. I had my second daughter 1 year prior to my WLS. I was 37 years old.  She crept up on my husband and I to be honest. While I love my child dearly...I often joke that I am too old for her.

I mean I had to deal with the terrible twos which lasted for four years. I now have all of this running around to do in terms of her activities...whereas...my oldest is much more self sufficient.  While the baby is  all cute and cuddly when they are infants...especially when you are on maternity leave...a reality check slowly comes into play when you start to project all of the things that you are going to need to do for this LIFE.  Shes a lot of work...all kids are...but I think you need to be mentally prepared to deal with the aftermath. I have adjusted.

I can't turn back now...but I was TOO OLD to be having that baby! I am speaking for myself alone. If you feel up for the challenge and you have a very good support system...I say go for it!

I am sure others will give you more advice about pregnancy post op and associated issues.

I wish you the best with your ultimate decision.

My son slipped up on us.  I was 37 and he was born on my birthday.
April 11th has a whole new meaning now.
I had him by c-section because my tubes were getting tied, burned and cut the hell out on THAT day - ya hear me!!

Now at 46 with a 9, 11 and 23 year old my old azz is tired.

I would not trade the whole entire world for my son because them two girls were driving me crazy but i want to live my LIFE and I know I've gotta work hard for the next 10 years and some to make sure they all can survive.

Think about it...make sure you are prepared for the years to come. My children are all before WLS. If I had it all to do again I would have tied my tubes 2 years earlier.  But...he is the JOY of my life.

Now if you have lost your weight and are feeling great - do you really want to fight THAT demeon again????

TOTALLY Your decision.

From an age standpoint....I'm only 30, in my 32nd week of pregnancy and I'll tell you that I WILL NOT be having anymore after my son.  Hell, I feel old!

My daughter is 7years old and I had her pre-WLS, she is a lot of work by herself, so I can't imagine what the years to come will be like with two, but I welcome it.

To date, I've only gained 9lbs with pregnancy so I have no doubt that I'll be able to get back to pre-pregnancy size and hopefully smaller.  Being pregnant after WLS does have its own set of issues...you'll be monitored a little more closely just to ensure that both you and baby are getting the nutrition you need.

Wishing you much success!

I think the question would be are YOU and your husband ready to have a child from a financial and emotional standpoint?  Everyone is DIFFERENT! I would not think you are too old, MOST career women start their families in their LATE 30s to 40s when they are well established and can afford to take care of their families and have settled down, so as long as you CAN have babies and you are healthy you should be able to start a family when you want too.  My sister had her last son at 38, and she was able to take care of him very well and she had a weight loss surgery when she was in her 20s.

I think what you NEED to worry about is that you already have 3 babies and had them via- C section, so there may be some risk involved that you may need to talk to a medical professional about. Good luck and congrats to you on wanting to expand your family

Edited to add: My mom had me when she was 41 years old, and boy am I happy I am here!  I was a slip up back in those days
