Etiquette Question
Well, since it was 'taken there' - let me say this.
There are MANY people on here who have had showers, weddings, birthdays (myself included) where people they have NEVER met a day in their life have received gifts. WE HAVE DONE THIS MANY TIMES ON THIS BOARD - DON'T ACT LIKE YOU'VE NEVER PARTICIPATED! Hell, we even collected for flowers when James almost drowned and when one of our members lost her mother...NO ONE SAID A WORD ABOUT THAT!
Rhonda, I know you've done things for people here that you don't know. If I read Trina's message correctly, she is saying that she wouldn't give a gift to someone she doesn't know "like that"...I've done things for people here I have never met - no need to mention names...doesn't matter.
It's all about what you feel personally about someone. If you don't feel the urge/need to send someone you don't know 'like that' a gift..that's your perogative...I just don't think you should bash anyone else for NOT feeling that way.
3 years ago, I had over 20 people from BAF travel to Chicago to attend my birthday weekend and the M&G. Guess what, I paid $30 for EACH person to attend my party...and that was for people I didn't know - because I INVITED ANYONE WHO WANTED TO COME! A few of the people who came - I had NEVER met them...not at a M&G...but, they wanted to join the celebration - and gave me gifts...which they didn't have to...but they did. I appreciated every one who came to the party and who took the time out of their schedules to celebrate with me...did not do it to get a gift...but to meet my fellow BAF'ers from here.
My feelings...you do what you feel, and I'm going to do what I feel...it's your/my money, right? Right...that's what I thought!
Stop trippin' on this ****it ain't worth it! Just do you!

I wouldn't give a mofo that I ain't know or give two ****s about a damn thing - got a BOATLOAD of former co-workers that I ain't sending a new penny to - HOWEVER - I have sent some good **** to a couple folk on here.
I ain't ALL hard - but I ain't no damn donation bank either! That's all WE sayin - just cause you GET a request for a gift don't mean a mofo DESERVES anything..... so who is we bashin????

Donna you're very correct I have done numerous things for people on BAF I have never met, and MAINLY it was because these people didn't ask for thing. To ME that is the most appreciative people in the world.
BUT, you have the peeps or two who try to take advantage of people kindness. I remember your party and one Cookie planned a few months her philosophy and yours was just come and have fun, if you can't make it I completely understand. And THEN you have people who out of the clear blue sky such as my cousin for example who invited me to a baby shower (remind you I haven't seen or spoken to her in over 2 years). When I got her evite I had to call her mother to "inquire" about this surprise pregnancy.
Somewhere between the word ET and IQUETTE, people simply don't have it anymore. I am having a 40th b-day bash in February, my invitation is simple just come and have fun, all booze and food are on me.

Just my thoughts.....she probably invited other people from the job and didn't want to omit anyone.
I would select an affordable gift from the bridal registry, mail it in advance and explain in the card that you won't be able to attend and wish her the best!
P.S. ask to see the pics from the wedding via e-mail so that you appear to be interested even if you aren't.
