I am a first time poster but long time reader, concerning your post in My life prayer is not just about asking. The bible says " the prayer of the righeous man availeth much" I asked and then I thank him for giving it to me even if he hasn't yet, that is where my faith comes in cause " now faith is substance of things hope for and the evidence of things not seen" I think the term "spritual " is interesting, God want's us to be hot or cold not luke warm, bible scholars know what happends to the luke warm folks. In my personal realationship with God, I use prayer as a time to commune with him, to speak my concernes, to thank him and to pray for others whether they are my enemies or friends.

The funny thing is , you really would be surprised at some of the things " Childern of God" ask for we come from royalty our bible tells us " I was young but now Im old and I have never seen the righeous forsaken nor his seed beggin bread"  Asking for a mate from a lonely man or women is relevant cause marriage is a good thing, cloths asked by a person homeless and needing that one thing to make it throught is relevant. safe trips because we know that the enemy walks around the earth like a lion seeking whom he may kill and devour. ( abbreviated its in 2nd peter) all the things you mentioned seemed important enough to pray and ask God for, the reality is we can't and don't do or recieve things on our own, there is help whether we admitt it or not!

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9, NIV).

Seriously?? What ever happened to just having good ol' faith in God??

There are those of you that believe in the "word" "Jesus dying for your sins" and still you will get on your knees and ask for things I really don't get... like praying for clothes, a mate, a safe trip (neva understood that one for real), for strength to not eat some chocolate, pray to lose weight, prayer for a happy birthday, a good date, pray I win lotto etc...I just don't get it!!!!

Here I am a person that doesn't believe in the bible and yet I would feel bad about asking for some things that I see "children of God" ask for.....Like doesn't God have bigger fish to fry? Even my heathen azz feels worthy of the best God has to give, and I can say I do get it...I live a very happy filled life!! When I do ask for something its on someone else's behalf....Maybe if most of you would do more THANKING when you pray instead of ASKING your lives would improve...but that is just my 2 cents...there was a time I was an "asker" but I was getting everything I asked for and it wasn't necessarily what I really wanted, it was because I lost faith that God would provide for me without asking/praying for it....I know it gets on my nerves when my kids ask me for stuff I have prepared to give them

No but seriously is there anything you won't pray for? Or are you one to pray for everything? Where do you draw your prayer line?

Ro, most things that I can take care of myself, I just do it.  I plan things out and take practical steps to get things done.

I pray for guidance when I'm unsure about something, even after doing my research.  I trust that God has my best interests at heart, so I ask for God to show me things that I need to see.   I try to stay open to hearing the answers.  There have been times that it took me many years later to find out that what was initially a disappointment in my life turned out to be the best possible thing to happen for me.

I pray when I've done my best, but keep running into a brick wall.  I pray when I know that I am powerless and I need help.

I also pray for others when I perceive a need, whether they ask for it or not.

I do think sometimes people underestimate how much God loves us.  God is the ultimate dad, kind and patient.  I believe He is interested in all aspects of our lives.

Luke 12: 7 --- God has numbered every single hair on my head

Psalms 56: 8 --- God has a record of every tear I have ever shed
John 3:16 --- Jesus died so that I could someday become immortal
