OK, so surgery is in a week.  I went to Walmart while visiting New Orleans and got some stuff.  Anything I'm missing, or do you have any suggestions? ( I haven't gotten jello, posicles, etc)

Homemade strained veggie soup courtsey of mom - just tomato based broth (ok'd by NUT after week or or 2).
Protein samples ordered on way (about 20+).
Terry leisure suit to wear to/from hospital(bottoms too big- gotta get used to smaller sizes!)
Front close bras
Socks
Undies
Books (gotta get magazines)
chapstick
Huggies disposable washclothes
lotion
trial deoderant
crystal light lemonade
splenda
SF grape & tropical punch Kool Aid
Hawaiaan Punch light
32 case Dasani water
2 insulated sippee cups (thanks, Cookie for that idea!)
flushable butt wipes
Gas Xstrips
Centrum chewables
Caltrate mixed chewables
500 mcg(?) B-12 sublingual
body pillow for when I get home

Will bring mp3 player.  Got to find an a/c adapter charger as I don't have a laptop. I know cell and charger.

Any suggestions would be welcome!

Make sure your socks are non skid slipper socks if your hospital does not provide them for you or non skid slippers for walking the halls post op.

If you wear a bra to bed have a strapless on hand.  With the iv still in you will not be able to get a bra on and off without taking down the iv bag to put on the straps.

Yup.  You need something with no straps or removable straps.  After surgery you may not be able to hook the strap on the iv arm once you put the bra on.

The iv is inserted when you are in the buff under your surgical gown.  The gown comes on and off easily because the shoulders snap all the way open.  A bra, even front hook will require you to take down the iv bag to put it through the staps to get the bra on.  Either that or leave the strap off on the iv side.  Nurses don't like when you mess with the iv bags.  Also, you may have a pain med pump in which case your mission is futile.

I bought a front snap house coat and opened the shoulder seams then added snaps so it opens like a hospital gown.  With the strapless bra I was able to change into my own things with the iv still in.

Thanks, M.S.W. : I own 2 strapless - one I can't fit anymore and the other is underwire. guess I'll be wearing that one.  I have a strapless sports bra - don't know if can fit and where it's at. Guess I;ll either be wearing that one or just making sure covered if dudes are visiting, lol.

You have a very good list.....However my hositpal had alot of stuff I didn't need to bring. They had non slip socks for me and soap & lotion. I didn't need a special bra I just used a regular one when I went home. My hospial even gave me a "hug" teddy bear for the ride home.  But you do have a great list of stuff for home. I was on soup and water etc. for 2 weeks. Good luck

I found I needed a towel (folded length wise) to put between me and the seat belt. The hospital gave me a great stomach pillow to use for the ride home.

You may want to bring a bed pillow for the ride home to hold on your stomach area when the car makes a turn or goes over a bump.  That was an odd feeling and it helped to have something there for me to keep my stomach area in place and not moving around as much.

Good Luck!
