I'm one of the few here, Doug! In fact, as I type, there are 2 cardinals and a several tiny sparrows feeding on black oil sunflower seeds at my window feeder right now! I was out at the lake earlier enjoying the scenery and the scissor-tailed flycatchers do their elegant mid-air feeding and land on wires to rest between catches!

Now I get it! I made the assumption that they are more widespread across the nation, but I just learned (from my friend, Google) that they are only in a handful of states and are the state bird of Oklahoma!
I'm in N Texas and they are abundant here, mostly near water, but I see them on the power lines along the highway when the fields get mowed. They are very beautiful, and they use their scissored (split) tails like a rudder in flight. Very cool to see!
