WHAT THE HELL IS WITH ALL THESE GRAY HAIRS, DYE QUESTION ???
I buy the Clairol beautiful browns in blackest black at Sally's. I like the texture and I thinks its gentle and #1, it doesn't come off of my pillows or clothes when I start sweating.
Working on me - want to be better in everyway not just physically!!! Its a process no time to judge or be judged!!!!

I'm going to contradict everyone on the just for men. I've used it for over ten years to touch up the little greys just above my left eyebrow and near my part. I don't need to do the whole head if I'm not changing color.
I use the beard and mustache formula. Mix one or to lines per the instructions and brush on. I have never soiled a towel or pillow case or anything else.
My "on the way to the hospital" pic is shamefully the only pic on my profile where I have actually combed my hair. Its flat ironed with no chemical straighteners. This pic was taken two days after using JFM on the edges and for the strays where my hair is parted. No extra hospital bill for stained pillow cases and it looks natural.

Yeah MSW I just want to dye the ones in the very front. I don't want to have to deal with this drawn out dye process, I don't enjoy dealing with hair.
I just want to paint something on the greys wash and call it a day and I see on the commercials that is what JFM is.

Exactly why I use it but I use BEARD AND MUSTACHE FORMULA. I can't speak for the whole head stuff.
It comes with a tray and a brush and two tubes. You squeeze a line or two of each along the measuring line and stir them up with the brush. Paint on for 20 min or so, I never really time it anymore, then wash and condition. I do it every other week because of the new growth. I color all over every couple of months or when I want a new shade but I always need the jfm every other week.
Perhaps its my hair but I haven't soiled anything yet. I'll be JFM'n today.

V'N MY RNY. WORKING FOR ME BECAUSE I WORK FOR IT.
Hi, Lee!
I second Brenda's recommendation for Clarol's Beautiful Collection, but I suggest using the new formula which covers grays even better.
Its mild, semi-permanent color made specifically for black hair. It's so mild that it was made for use immediately after relaxing hair, which is how I use it. I've used the basic version for years with no damage at all, and switched to their Advanced Gray Formula when it came out about a year ago. My friend who doesn't need relaxer also gets great results with it as well.
Semi-permanent means that unlike permanent dyes with strong chemicals, it fades off over several shampoos (about 6-7 shampoos for me). It can be messy during application, so ask Becca to help and rinse very, very well until the water runs clear (water will be tinted for a while till clear). After you dry the hair, no rubbing off on clothes & fabric like rinses.
Here is a link for a ton of info in it. Clarol also provides an 800 number to answer questions beyond that. www.clairolpro.com/products/demi_permanent/beautiful_collection
Best wishes!

Great question!
I have had grays since I was 14 years old. Even though I'm now 44, the grays are still isolated to around the edges and somewhat interspersed in the crown area, visible when I part my hair.
Since I do not need color all over, I usually cover only what's gray, so you can too! Just match the color to your hair (or even just close since you have so few). The bottle is small (3oz) so it will last you several applications.
I have a ton of hair (very thick & past shoulder length). When I used their burgundy-brown (a sassy color in the light!) I knew I'd need several bottles to fully cover it all. I used 3 bottles (needed 4) and got very pretty results. Even with the color change, I could still touch up new growth only & the edges as needed without a full-coverage job.
I'll add 2 suggestions for you: 1) that the best results for covering grays is to apply it, cover with a plastic cap & use dryer heat for 25 minutes (Clarol recommends it on the package). The grays then will be undetectable, not just semi-colored 'highlights', having absorbed the color better than without heat.
2) Since we WLS folk workout & sweat frequently, rather than shampoo every time you sweat, rinse the hair, and mechanically 'shampoo' (scrub scalp/comb thru/rinse/repeat) using conditioner-only, using actual shampoo only when you need it. Shampooing is more harsh than necessary & the rinsing and conditioning will remove the sweat salts. I've been doing this for years and my hair is in much better condition than it was when I shampooed every time I worked out. I now use actual shampoo about once every 2 weeks, or when I get it dirty (at the lake/doing yard work, etc) but I do the conditioner-wash 5 times a week.
This technique is known as co-washing & my hairdresser told me about it when I asked about what to do about frequent workouts to avoid the drying effects of shampooing so much.
I hope that helps!
