Family Members Are Hater Too.

 Today I told my family that I was going ahead with my plans for wls. All they can say is you know people are dieing from that surgery. I keep telling them I could drop dead on my way to work or even in my sleep. I have asthma's really bad and I could have an attack in my sleep and never wake up. I know a girl who had an asthma's attack and drooped dead in front of the time clock at work. Please someone please help spread the word. When God is ready for you and only than will you leave this place. Oh hell I could have a car accident and die. I don't care this is my chance to be health and happy and 7 or 8 sizes smaller and damned I'm going to take it. All those not on board with me go to he77 and  Leave Me      Alone.  Everyone wants to be on the call list. Who said I had a call list?     I'm going to have my son change the phone the same damn day of surgery. Than who you gonna call?

Lisa I think in varying degrees, most of us have had resistance from our loved ones & friends.  Just remember this is all about you & you are making the best decision based on your health issues.  If they don't come around, there is always this board & support groups in your area.

I didn't tell my family members anything (my twin knew) told my older sister the Friday before Monday morning surgery.  She had the look on her face but she didn't say a thing she didn't have time to reply.  Nor to google it(smile) come to think of it she didn't even come back around for a few months later.  To this day she have not had a comment about my weight lost. If you can't say nothing nice don't say a THING.

Dont be so bitter with your family, but I do understand. I have yet to tell anyone that I had the surgery. When I had my surgey I told everyone that I was going on vacation for two weeks. I was very lucky to have came through the surgery with very minimum problems. I was put in ICU because I lost alot of blood and needed a transfusion but everything worked put fine. I was able to go back to works two weeks after my surgery.

I started loosing weight prior to my surgery and everyone thinks I'm just still dieting. It's better this way for me.

We have to do whats best for us. Sometimes people don't understand the obesity thing. But when you live it and carry it every day it can be hell.

I too had the same reaction from my family when i finally told them my surgery date. The only person that knew was my twin (as well) and that's because she is wanting to do WLS along with me.  My mom was concerned of death as well and all I told her to do is pray for me. Like you, Lisaloving hand, I told her I dont need to have surgery to die-which she already knows. But my sisters and nieces were the really negative ones. And I had to make it clear that how they felt doesnt matter. I didnt care and I still don't and I keep my distance.

I prayed to God for peace about my decision and i'm not worried. I 'm excited and nervous, but not worried.

I'm sorry you had to go through that with family.. but I think most times they are speaking our of fear..

I haven't told my parents and probably wont' tell them into I get well in to process of preparing for the surgery. When you tell ppl wls you usually get some kind of face or negative reaction

I've discussed it with my oldest sister..who is behind me 100% she suggest gastric to me yrs ago..but when I told her I decided to do lap band..she was just as supportive and I told all my gfs last weekend when we had our girl night and they were all supportive.. and of course my hubby knows..and he is for it. He's a big guy too thought he'd feel some way about me dropping the weight but he is so selfless

I wish you the best of luck with you wls journey and will keep you lifted in prayer.. You are God's child first.. he hasn't brought you this far to leave you!

They'll come around or maybe they won't.  What's important is you are doing this for you.  You're tradinge the risks of one procedure for the risks of life long complications of obesity.  You know what you're doing.  Congratulations to you. 

I have to agree with others...I didnt tell most of my family that I was having sugery. Only four members actually (including my mother). I posted a discussion yesterday about family and friends and their comments post WLS, once the weight actually starts coming off and you look like a totally different person...the haters really show their true faces. You have to be able to discern those that are just scared and worried for you (like my aunt) and those that really mean you no good (family can be like that too).

As long as you have done your research regarding the surgeon and hospital you will be having surgery at...all you can do is put it in the Lord's hands. You are making a step in the right direction to get the best out of the body that you have been given...bottom line!

ROFLMAO @ changing your number...I am 4 months out and trust me talking on the phone is the last thing you want...I didnt even want to see my momma when I came out of sugery all I wanted was DRUGS!! Change the number...who needs that stress!

I agree with the group! I felt like changing my number but didn't! That's what caller ID is for. I decided to keep my number in case of emergencies! When I had my surgery I didn't tell anyone until they noticed that I was losing and then I said, "you know I had the surgery about 2 months ago!" By then it was too late! Whenever someone says I look good around my oldest sister, who is a hater, b/c she is skinny and thinks she is the only one who is suppose to look good, she tells everybody, "Teena only looks like that b/c she cheated and got the surgery!" HATER! The bottom line is you have to do what is best for you!
