I went to law school at age 35 and I found that my life and work experiences prior to law school have all come in handy in one way or another in my practice. Family law is people law -  As another poster noted - a prep course is a good thing to invest in.  If you have time, it might be worth your while to intern at a firm  or legal service agency that does what you are thinking of doing.   E-mail me on the BL if you have any specific questions.
