6 Year WLS Surgiversary...Was Yesterday!!!
This is the 2nd time I missed my WLS surgiversary!!!
Six years ago YESTERDAY...Friday, August 22, 2003 - that was the day that changed my life, when I was wheeled into the operating room for open RNY, carrying 321 of the 350 lbs. that were slowly killing my spirit and my body.
Fast forward to today, I am MUCH healthier, 140 lbs. lighter and still continuing the journey to maintain, not regain. Oh, life for me ain't been no 'crystal stair'...
It's had tacks in it, and splinters, and boards torn up, and places with no carpet on the floor --
bare. But all the time I'se been a-climbin' on, and reachin' landin's, And turnin' corners, And sometimes goin' in the dark where there ain't been no light.
I know that Langston Hughes wrote this poem as a word from a mother to her son; however, it gives such a powerful message - even in the continuance of this journey. I've regained (splinters); I've become less focused (boards torn up); I've become complacent (no carpet - bare)...but I have perservered and continue to press toward the mark to a better eating regime. After regaining 40 of the lbs. I lost from surgery, I found myself heading back to the same habits that caused me to gain 180 lbs. over a 25-year period. But, it was nothing but God leading my Pastor, Rev. Otis Moss III, to encourage our entire congregation to become focused on the foods we consume; foods that led to hypertension, diabetes, and other health ailments. Yes, God spoke through my pastor and I heard His still small voice and began to listen!
I began listening to the Word that our bodies are our temples. Well, that analogy never hit me - but the goodness of God has proved to me that I can control my health. I made the change a few months ago and what a difference it has made! I am eating MUCH healthier foods; no longer eating the food that dredged through my system (beef, pork, fried foods - no longer the choices)...and as a result, I am now back on course of losing weight and feeling and looking wonderful!
Blessings to you all!

People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and the New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas. ~Author Unknown
Ditto what Faith said, Happy surgiversary Ms Donna, you look absolutely awesome, very beautiful woman of God. Thanks so much for the word that your pastor shared with you. I too need to rededicate myself to healthier eating habits. While I have not gained any weight back I am slipping back into more unhealthy snacking which I know where it will lead and I am definitely not trying to go backwards. God delivered me out of bondage as far as my weight is concerned and I can honor him by taking care of his temple. Thanks again for your post, you definitely have put something on my mind.
Have a wonderful blessed Sunday!
