Myrtle Beach
Hey BAF,
My honey and I will be traveling to Myrtle Beach, SC next month - neither of us have ever visited. I'd like to hear from anyone who has been there (recently, of course)...any suggestions for things to do (other than shopping?)...sights we should not miss?
We are staying at the Marriott Grand Resort and Spa...any feedback about this resort?
DD
P.S. to Mrs. Cle - I will be in Raleigh/Louisburg on Thursday, Sept. 24 - would you and Cle like to get together for dinner that evening? Leaving for Myrtle Beach early Friday morning...

Hey Donna, I'm sure that will be fine, just waiting on a response back from Hubby to make sure we don't have anything planned for the day.
Be sure to visit the Broadway at the Beach. The aquarium is great, there is a nice little martin a bar there has the best peach martini and several other things there. Last time we were there we spent most of time between there and the Outlets.

That sounds great! Uh...wait a sec...did you say OUTLETS!!!??? Welllllll...looks like we WILL be doing a little shopping! Besides, there are a few small items we need for our place (like me, he loves to shop!)
And a martini bar...yes, see, now we're talkin'! I am definitely looking forward to this mini-vacation!
My flight gets into Raleigh at 11:30 Thursday morning...once we get settled, we'll be ready to head out somewhere for a nice dinner, martinis (lol) and nice conversation...just let me know.

We visited last year and going again labor day weekend.
The day that we arrive , we checkin, had dinner and we walk the strip..it's pretty at night with all the lights
We were there for four days and here is what we did.
Visit Broadway at the Beach- nice to eat and shop
Visit the Aquarim - it was okay but I wasn't impress
Visit a small theme park - can't remember the name but it was something Kingdom- free to get in just have to pay for rides.
We also went out clubbing each night. Visited a different club each night. Club 2001 & Revolution (located at Broad at the beach) and Klub Kyropnite.
Had lots of fun. This year I want to go parasailing but we will see.

There is so much to do.
I second Broadway at the Beach. Nice place for dinner. Mirgaritaville is nice. The souveniers are overpriced there, so plan to window shop and get your souveniers on Kings Hwy.
I also like the Damons Restaurant at the end of the southside of ocean blvd. Beautiful view of the beach.
I love Huntington Beach State park. It has a castle you can tour. Also some great nature trails. Pack a picnic and have a romantic lunch there. The beach there and at Myrtle Beach state park are more secluded, clean, and very quiet. This time of year there will be very few there. Great Makeout spot.
There is a small parking fee, but well worth the seclusion. Check out their website.
Huntington Beach also has abundant wildlife and you can spot alligators there.
Right before the entrance to Myrtle beach State Park there is a hidden road on the side where you can go harvest oysters. It was neat. I never saw people harvesting oysters! it is the state oyster something ??? It is a little dirt road and you have to pay close attention or you'll miss it.
Brookgren Gardens is cool. I enjoyed the boat ride of the old rice plantation and learned a lot about the slavery history of the coast. The area was famous for rice and palmetto plantations during slavery. Many of he homes on Pawleys island were owned by plantation owners. Check out their website.
You can charter a boat for the day in Murrells Inlet and fish or sightsee. Your hubby will like the fishing. You can also catch a sunset cruise of dolphin watch cruise there. Captain Dicks is a good source. We have always been pleased with his cruises.
I also like the beach at Pawley's island. Good place for kayaking. It is mostly a snooty crowd, but It's good to get a different perspective on things. There are no hotels on the island. The people either own or lease the exclusive homes. My son and I went crabbing there and caught some great crabs at the bridge leading to the island.
Skip all those super expensice Calabash Buffets. They are overrated and you can't eat $35 worth of that stuff with your pouch.
As you can see, I like weird stuff when I travel. Sitting by the pool and going shopping can be done at home. I like to do stuff the normal traveller wouldn't do.
I will try to send you some of my MB pics.

I love Myrtle Beach we go every year for Black Biker's week and have a ball.
It's a beautiful place to see. When we are there we drive down to Charlestown to see all of the sights. If you go into Charleston go to the Noisy Oyster they make this drink called Firely and after about 5 sips you will be chit faced..LOL... We went to the waterfront in Charleston and to a bar called WetWillies.. If you like frozen drinks you will love this place there are so many to choose from but be careful. I went into a dumping symdrome while I was there. Had a drink called Call A Cab and girl you will feel like calling a cab with allof the different types of liquor.
To bad you arent going in October we go to my hometown for Camp meeting. It is a bunh of folks drinking partying and eating. it is so much fun and I absouletly live it there.
Have a great time and dont forget not to come back pregnant.
