An Apology to Your Forum
on 8/15/09 1:59 pm
I personally would have never posted it here. It is offensive, but my intention was not to offend in any way.
My son does listen to rap and knows this is not a fair representation of rap music or the black community. He listens to other types of music as well, as many of you do.
Please accept my sincere apology for this being brought here. R an R is the board where anything goes, and this did not need to be brought here.
If anything, I hope this has opened a line of communication.

And the way it was brought over here.... ~smh~ I started to reply, then realized the futily in trying to explain or convey the '******upedness' of that post...... so I just moved on.

My problem is and will continue to be the fact that you knew it was offensive but chose to post it anyway. Better judgement would have been great here. Whatever kept you from posting it on the Black American Forum should have kept you from posting it in a forum where there are Black Americans.
If it's something you wouldn't feel comfortable posting one place it more than likely shouldn't be posted at all. THAT is TRUTH!

I am not black, and have never ventured to the BAF before.
You are free not to accept my apology, but it was made in all sincerity. We all make mistakes and I owned mine. More than I can say for some.

I think this should be taken one step further... does it make it less offensive if posted where no BA post? I don't think so.
"Whatever kept you from posting it on the Black American Forum should have kept you from posting it in a forum where there are Black Americans. " I think it is almost worse to only post it where only white Americans see it... then it becomes a one sided argument - depending on who is viewing... almost giving no voice for the other side of the coin. IMO it should never have been posted in the first place.
I think so many white people think racial tension is overrated and they do great disservices to themselves and others by thinking this way. I grew up in a very diverse environment. I am grateful for that. The one thing I cannot stand is racial epithets and derogatory comments based on race and ethnicity.
When I first moved into my neighborhood 4 yrs ago. I had to deal with a situation like this. My neighbors across the street are a black family with teenage boys and 2 young daughters. One day (seriously we were still moving in, not even been there for a week) these two white teenage girls were walking by the house and the boys were playing basketball and I hear the girls yell "N-" I freaked out on them. I opened my door and started screaming at them, telling them I never want to hear that language from their mouths, that there rare two little girls who should never have to hear that word and that I did not want my child to hear that either (she was 3 months old at the time) and if they cannot keep their dirty mouths to themselves then they should choose another street to walk down. The girls apologized an quickly left the street. The boys looked at me like I was crazy! LOL then they told me that those girls are always bugging them (they live on the next street)... 4 years and I have not seen those two girls since LOL!
Some things should NOT be tolerated and this is definitely one of them!
My husbands family is not the most racially diverse thinking family.. in plain words they are so racist. My husband somehow is not - I have no idea how he escaped that but he did. Once his brother said "N-" in front of my daughter who was maybe 2 at the time and I freaked out on him. I told him if he ever wanted to be a part of her life he will never use that word in front of her again. he was like "oh but you can say "f--k" and that is OK (I do swear a lot) ?" I was like hello you racist moron those two words are COMPLETELY different. One is just a swear the other carries many meanings and is derogatory towards a group of people.
Aggh - sorry for the long post but this subject really ticks me off.

I went back and viewed that video and *I* thought it was funny and VERY SAD, it's SAD with how they are stereotyping blacks, but again SOME blacks do this to themselves especially in those rap videos, you are not doing nothing but REPEATING what SOME blacks do to themselves EVERY DAY. I don't think that video was representing blacks in how to read, I think it was satire and humor, racist humor? probably.
But what I find very interesting is young WHITE boys purchase MOST of those thug like rap songs, so apparently they are enjoying this too and ghetto themselves.....LOL
Is this offensive? YES, and so are those rap videos and some rap songs that call women *****es and hoes....MOST black folks that I know DO NOT USE mother ****** and ***** in their everyday vocabulary.
That just like saying MOST white folks are REDNECKS and live in trailer parks, you got different class of folks of ALL races.

I understand what you are saying. I do have to say my son has not bought any rap cd's that I know of. Even if he has I can't censor him. It is my thought that at his age he should be able to choose his books and music.
Most of the black people we know are very intelligent, clean and well spoken. Nothing like what is portrayed in the video. It was shown to him by a black friend from school. I think it was meant to be a parody.
I know many whites this video could apply to, especially here in the south.
