I am a medium brown complexion...and have not really experienced any significant issues with men and my skin color...then again...have not had many men...so that might be a factor
. I am just curious as to the responses. I have not noticed trends...again only preferences and I have seen all different combinations when it comes to couples and skin tones. I think it just lovely seeing a couple...holding hands regardless of the skin color. Love is a beautiful thing.

Hey gorgeous you are SO right, my preference WAS black men, but the ones I ran into were not willing to settle down and have a LIFE, I guess they will still be hitting the clubs and trying to get them a PIECE at 60 and 70 years old...LOL

I just want to say that what kills me is the light skin sista who thinks she's pretty just because she has light skin. Negro please! I know that we are all beautiful to someone in the world but just not to everyone. Now I've dated white and black, but if I'm out and I see a group of men my eye always goes to the dark skin brother first. Dark skin is so beautiful to me. Don't get me wrong I do notice men who are handsome and not as dark or even light, but my preference is definitely blurple men. The ones that you're so black you're purple, blurple. Oh and don't let them be tall and bald on top of it, or have the hair with those pretty waves. Oh lawd somebody help me!
Monique,
I'm curious. How would it be determined that a woman believes she's pretty due to the skin color-factor specifically? I ask since I've been accused of that same thing, and as far as I'm concerned, my color is certainly not my best feature, and since I don't feel that way at all, it was surprising to hear.
In my case, my mom is dark with flawless skin and she is very, VERY pretty (strangers approach her constantly to compliment how pretty/beautiful she is, how perfect her skin is; my friends would frequently comment about how beautiful my mom is). I'm the same shade as my dad (very fair). My dad & I were always trying to tan to a more rich dark color., We saw her beauty as ideal. I do not do sun anymore, due to potential damage, but I miss getting dark each summer.

I would have responded to this sooner but I've been away from my computer for a few days. When a woman says that she is prettier than someone and then says look how dark the other person is I'm assuming that she thinks her light skin is the cause for her being prettier than someone else. My mother also has dark skin and my father light and our family is made up of different shades and I consider the ones with darker skin to be just as beautiful as the ones with light. I love dark skin and in a man I prefer it. I myself am a little on the lighter side, but trust and believe you will never hear me say that I'm prettier than someone because of my skin color.
I was going to bypass this one, but I had to put in my two cents worth (I know u can't stand me Naomi, but I had to post on this one)
Why is it that in 2009, we are STILL on this color complexion bull****
I mean, damn, I've heard the **** in my own family in that I have a brother and my dad more than pass the "paper bag test".
To me, this is part and parcel a symptom of the mental brainwashing that has taken place among our people since the days of servitude. Only, now, not only is it that complexion bull**** but also that "class" bull**** where we have that divide between those who are seen as "ghetto" versus those who are seen as "bourgeoisie". It is frigging ridiculous.
What people need to take heed of is the example of Prof. Henry Louis Gates. Light-complexioned, successful black man who lives in a affluent community, but when it comes right down to it, he is STILL a Black man in Amerikka.
We will never EVER progress as a people if we continue to fall victim to these damned false barriers that we purposely walk into on a regular basis...
No, Naomi, I'm not attacking you...I truly am not. We cannot help the complexions we were born..but to say that we are still in this day and age projecting one against another because one is seen as "better" than the other is so frigging stupid, its embarrassing. I can't blame anyone for dating anyone of any "color" they want, for preference is a wonderful thing/ option. Oh, one more thing..there aren't more single white men available..I think what you may have wanted to say is more single "eligible" white men (that is debatable, too, I know AS a single black man. I'm just saying).
Okay, I'm done.

"When Alexander saw the breadth of his domain, he wept for there were no more worlds to conquer." Plutach. Not true, for there are always more worlds to conquer.
