OT: Online dating - yea we done talked aobut dis B4
I don't know about the online dating thing,,I have been doing it off and on for years now, still ain't married. I met some okay people, most had some secret issue. I have tried all the sites and am currently on blacksingles.com. Like your friend, (hehehe) I am ready for a new view (pink, brown, yellow) anything but that african or angry black man that the man done did wrong, I am so tired of waiting 3 months to get to know someone, then gotta start over.
Now I have stepped it up and am seeing three plus one I met at chruch. I don't know what is worse, the men looking for sex on the internet or the men at church!
Good luck, I am trying to figure this shoit out too.
Val

Hmmm...online dating. All I've got to say on that is remember how bitter and hurt I was last year? Met that guy off of www.blackpeoplemeet.com. Met two other guys, both of whom I dated for quite some time on another dating site-unfortunately they both were married. My basic belief is that if someone is fishy and looking to be dishonest internet dating makes that an even easier venue to be a liar and cheat. Like Juanita suggested earlier-I never thought I'd go the background search route but sure wished I had done it earlier, maybe I wouldn' have wasted so much of my time.
Good luck to you...err 'your friend' in your search.

MM, It''s no secret that I did onling dating ONLY Match.com for the last 2 years (I posted openly about a LOT of my adventures last year that caused others to "flame" me...lol) but I thought I would share my dating adventures the good, bad and ugly, I have heard about other dating sites, but since I had a pretty good experience with Match I did not pay for any other sites.
I really did not have a "type" I was just looking for a man that shared the same interest and outlook in life that I did, This was my Match.com profile below :
Ideally I would like to meet a guy who is spontaneous, compassionate, romantic, old fashioned values, handsome, commitment minded, witty, down to earth and most importantly NOT married. Please only the sincere and serious minded inquire within ;).
A little bit about me, I am spiritual, romantic, compassionate, drama free, emotionally stable and commitment minded .... I am also a computer geek, (software developer) ....I love to cook, travel, going to plays/movies and concerts, and just having fun. I have been getting very athletic these days ..my pics that I took of myself are recent.
What I am looking for is just simple-- Ethnic background does not matter as long as we have a lot in common; I love sci-fi movies, and cuddling by the fireplace with a candle lite dinner. I am just looking for a down to earth guy who appreciates a good woman that is also down to earth :).
I got at least 20 emails and winks per week, so I got enough to pick and choose who I wanted to date. I dated every ethnic group, black, mixed, white, Middle Eastern, African, you name it...LOL, I don't discriminate, I was looking for a MAN and for someone that was looking to settle down and we had the same interest and values and someone who was willing to get married. Interestingly enough, although I dated a LOT of brothas on Match, I got more winks and emails from white men, not sure what that was about...lol. could be that there are more white men on Match than brothers and I was NOT willing to do Black planet, I have my reasons for that.
Although, my initial search and preference was to find a black man, most of the black men that I had chemistry with and dated, only wanted to just "kick it" and was not interested in having a LIFE, and they were NOT ready to settle down -- at least with me..LOL, so I kept my options open to other races. I can't speak of the other dating sites, but I just made sure I had full length photos and clear pictures posted and what I was looking for, I was not too picky lol, the guy HAD to have a job, a certain income, NO KIDS AT HOME, (because I have none) and I was looking for compatibility; if I had small kids I would have wanted a guy with small kids to have a common bond. Also I wanted the guy to be at least 5'11 inches tall I like to look up at my man, I love BIG men, as you can see, but not sloppy fat, just big and tall, so I had my preference there.
Yes, I did get the scammers too, with fake profiles from Africa..lol, I just deleted those, on-line dating is just like meeting someone in a night club, you have to take precautions with both, but I like on line dating better because you can see someones profile and see their income and job, and their lifestyle without a conversation and this gives you the opporuntity to weed out any undesirables with no hurt feelings.
So I would definately recommend on-line dating sites over nightclubs especially if you are over 35 and a professional and really don't like to get out there in the club scene.....I met my sweetie and he is the love of my life although it took about 200 dates to find him they say you have to kiss a log of frogs before you get to the prince and trust me I have had my fair share of frogs on Match.com
. Good luck! I thought I would share my experience.

Congrats Naomi and others who did hook up with a good compatible person eventually thru online dating. As for me I will take my chances at the race track instead rather than online dating. At least at the track I have proven I can pick a winner some of the time lol.
