There is nothing wrong with others encouragement when they are trying, HOWEVER my wording would be choosen very wisely...
A great example is someone who has lost xxx pounds BUT automically assume they would look cute in something...ughhhh NO. Even at my smallest I NEVER, NEVER NEVER NEVER would put on short shorts....
WHY??? Because I have some cellulite on the back of my legs that will make you
.. Cellulite is NOT CUTE regardless if your size "2" or "42". Even at my smallest I never would wear anything that cling to my belly, which is why people were shocked when I showed them my BEFORE pics before my tummy tuck, thank god for plastic surgeons

Nope...not me...I don't say a word...unless its my BFF or a family member. First thing the person will think...especially if they are full of themselves is that you are jealous. Naw...not worth the hassle. 
I just can't tell someone they look a mess unless it's my kids or hubby. LOL I will have to find something to compliment even if it's not the hair. I would say, "I bet it would look even better when you style it yourself, at least that's how my hair does" hahaha
As far as style, I can't say anything to anybody because my kids and hubby says that I dress like I'm from "Little House On The Prairie"
