I pull out diversion tactics if the person is sensitive, but they asked. My reply would be something like "what made you choose that haircut", or "that's an interesting choice". 
If it's my home girl, I'll ask her straight up what the hell was she thinking. 
Compliments? Nah. If I don't have something truly complimentary to say, I wouldn't say anything at all.

I can only give a compliment when I see fit, otherwise Im quiet and or just plain smiley in a sweet way. 
Problem is sometimes my eyes and facial expressions talk for me....
Im still trying to find out how to control them.
In life, and especially on this journey there are sure to be days when you falter and give in.......just remember to never give up.

Girlfriend......If they happen to ask me and I dont like what I see or hear......you should see me trying to wiggle out of a tight spot...I start stuttering, looking through my pocketbook, letting my eyes wonder and the whole nine yards. 
I just hate to hurt people's feelings....Im sensitive and I recognize that trait in others as well.
So sue me
