Having kids after WLS

Good morning everyone!

I'm 31, single with no kids and I'm considering WLS specfically DS.  I keep wondering if now is a good time to have WLS.  I know you should not have kids until a few years after having surgery, but by then I will be in my mid-30's.  I worry about three things, having kids so late, will my kid be heathy if I have it after DS? and  what if I gain the weight back after having kids?  On the opposite end I think about the fact that I'm single and I don't have a significant other at the point to even think about having kids with.  So maybe after I lose some of this weight I will feel more confidence and become more active which may lead to me meeting that special someone.  I don't know I'm confused.

Any thougths or experieces that can be shared.  Have a great weekend!

Flying solo as a parent is no joke but its been done since the begining of time.  You'd better know you are 1000% ready

I'm not a believer in putting life on hold.  If I had a goal of wls and was not prepared to have kids, I would be researching pregnancy after wls and making my first pre op appointment.

There is a pregnancy and a ds board.   You may benefit from xposting there.

Good luck to you, whatever you decide.

I will say 2 things on this post.
First of all, it's MUCH better for both you AND your baby if you get the weight off.
As for gain...it's what YOU make it. Many people don't know that pregnancy truly only requires around and extra 300-350 calories from your normal 'diet'.
I am not a DSer, I had RNY 5 years ago but I got pregnant 17mos post op and gained a whopping 15lbs. Most people didn't even know I was pregnant unless I told them, to the point that when I showed up at L&D for possible early labor 3 weeks before my daughter was born, the nurses looked at me and said "Why are you here?"
Ok, I got three things to say. I have an awesome hubby and one kid and it's STILL hard.
Be patient. "HE" will come!!!

I've had one child pre-WLS and currently pregnant with my second child and post-WLS.  I will say hands down that this experience is much, much more easier than the former.

Although labs have to be monitored a little more closely to ensure that I'm getting the proper nutrition, I've had no issues thus far.

The experience (when that time comes) will be much more bearable without the extra weight.

I feel you on this topic, as this is one of my major concerns with the Duodenal Switch, being that it is a much bigger surgery. than any of the other procedure types as far as malabsorption is concerned.  I spoke to my surgeon about it, and he said that it would not be a promblem, as long as you wait until at least  a year and a half to two years post op..T here are a few people on the DS board that have had kids post op, and some very early out in their surgery (not recommended but things happen), who have went on to have healthy kids.!
