IBS and WLS are the two connected?
I have been having really bad stomach cramps the past few weeks and finally went to the dr. fast forward 2 hrs I was diagnosed with IBS brought on by stress. I was given Nexium and told if it didn't clear it up will ahve to doa upper GI was wondering if anyone else had any issues after surgery with this condition?
Ro, they gave you Nexium for IBS? I take Nexium daily for GERD, indigestion/heartburn. I didn't know it helped that too. Was this given by your primary Dr.? I would suggest seeing a gastroenterologist. Symptoms regarding the stomach/bowels are so inter-related that some primary Drs (like mine) don't have a clue about correctly diagnosing and treating gastro stuff.
My issues started pre WLS, I have always had stomach issues since I was a kid,
Hope you get it resolved soon because stomach problems suck.

Yes it was my primary, she did suggest going to a gastroenterologist but I told her I'd try teh Nexium for a week or so and then schedule an appt (I really don't ahve time to schedule these dr. appts) She also did a rectal exam (can you say i felt violated lol) to check for ulcers so we really think its something to do with the amount of stress I'm under currently and IBS is the only thing that can flare with stress. I'm sure before teh year is out I'll be at a specialist. Thanks Kim for teh advice!
I'm just a preop but I have had issues with stress induced IBS. My first flare up was probably 10-15 years ago (stressful & bad marriage). It recurred about 5 years ago (divorce). Only had it a couple times since then and not nearly as severe. Left the azzhole in 2003 and married my first love in 2006. I'm sure both of those contributed to the improvements in IBS issues.
