Problems with Ambien
I got this idea from main board. Does anybody here take any sleepy pills ie: Ambien with no immediate results. Went to GYN and not pausing of any kind so not sure why I don't sleep well just don't. Someone posted about we as RNY do not have some factor for meds to work. I do experience inconsistent sleeping and not getting right to sleep. Any suggestions from experience about options? Thanks all
I too suffered from insomnia after having RNY, and later found out that ALOT of us have this issue. I was on Ambien to get some rest because I was about to go crazy not being able to sleep. I was still on Ambien up until the time I got pregnant, however, sleep is better for now that I'm pregnant but I've noticed the pattern of insomnia starting to come back...not as intense as it was before but it's there, the only difference is that it doesn't take me 4 hours to go back to sleep when I wake up in the middle of the night. I'm not sure what other options there are, I know they have an Ambien that's time released (although I have never tried it) ask your doctor for that one. I know my OB is telling me to take Benadryl now, but I don't want to risk taking anything so I'm just letting things remain as they are...for now.
Best wishes to you.

Abien gave me night terrors, I woke up screaming my fool head off at a friends...needless to the say I wasn't ever invited to sleep over again.
Anyway, I have found Trazadone (an old school anti depressant) works wonders. I usually cut my pills in half and 10 mg gets me beddy-bye in no time. I've recommended it to friends ( those that have had surgery and those that have not) and they've reported good sleep too.
The only thing is it really gives you cotton mouth so I keep a bottle of water at the bedside.
