Reflections from a WLS "Vet" - Long Message
What's up, BAF?! On here for a few...today's an off day...so I'm playing catch up. I wanted to share something with you all today - I feel that there is at least ONE person here who needs an encouraging word about this journey, especially as it relates to NOT GIVING UP!!!
This month marks my six-year anniversary of WLS...and as God would have it - I am once again losing weight and it is looking great for me! I began taking Phentermine back in June...I am down 20 lbs. and I feel wonderful - NO SIDE EFFECTS from this medication (although the doctor did tell me the first couple of weeks I would probably be a little jittery - that's gone now).
What Phentermine has helped me do is to change my eating habits. It does curb my appetite but one thing I don't do is miss meals. I do eat at least 2 meals per day; I am more into eating fresh fruits/vegetables. I do experience difficulty digesting meats/chicken, so fresh fish and small amounts of boneless/skinless chicken are working for me.
I say all that to say this...if you want to be successful in this journey...YOU MUST CHANGE YOUR THINKING FIRST! Having a healthy mindset and mental state is so very important in keeping yourself in check with your tool. One important thing I remember is to reflect on those triggers that caused me to EAT and to make poor decisions in what I put in my mouth.
Medical/Mental Reflection
So, if you are one of us who have had surgery and have regained weight, or your weightloss is not where you want it to be...but you want to re-start the engine of weightloss...AND YOU ARE MAKING POOR DECISIONS REGARDING YOUR FOOD INTAKE...PLEASE..PLEASE SEEK ASSISTANCE TO DEAL WITH YOUR MIND/MENTAL STATE FIRST!!! Talk to your doctor. Talk to your nutritionist. Talk to a psychologist - TALK TO SOMEONE - FIRST! Do not set yourself up to fail by not dealing with your mind/mental health - THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for your success.
Spiritual Reflection
If you are a praying person (and I know you do!) PRAY
...Ask God to HELP you to handle your situation. I prayed to God and asked Him to walk me through the re-evaluation process. I asked God for breakthroughs in both my personal life and my health life. He has blessed my personal life TREMENDOUSLY and He has blessed my HEALTH life - I stand in awe at His gifts. Because God has answered those prayers for me...I thank Him by doing that which I need to do to stay healthy - I eat to nourish my body.
Wait a second! Nourish my body? Wow - that is the prayer we pray before eating: "Lord, we thank you for the food we are about to receive...TO NOURISH AND STRENGTHEN OUR BODIES...through Jesus, we pray, Amen!"
Food is for NOURISHMENT! Food is for STRENGTHENING our bodies! One of those 'ah-ha' moments - I don't need to eat crazily to NOURISH myself...I don't need to make bad food choices to STRENGTHEN this temple I've been charged to take care of. If we remember these two things, we all can do better with our food choices!
REMEMBER TO NOURISH AND STRENGTHEN YOUR BODIES - BY EATING PROPERLY!
Hollah If You Hear Me!!!
