$250???  That's cheap!!!

I took my daughter to the ER a few months back and it cost me a whopping $472 with healthcare coverage from my job.

Its funny as a nurse all I listen to all the Dr's I work with complain that universal health care is the devil.  I guess having worked in inner city hospitals I see those that use the ER as a primary care office. I think with some type of universal coverage it will make it easier for people to have access to preventative care which would cut down on hospital admissions.

I'm sure that people that worry about limitations the plan will put on them haven't taken into consideration that its no different than going out of network now with insurance you currently have.  I guess I'm not all that worried about people over a certain age not having access to certain procedures and things like that since sometimes my co workers and I look at plans of care for some elderly people and those with every disease process known to man.  Simply, just because you can do something doesn't always mean you should.

...i'm considered "conservative" on some issues...and "liberal" on some issues...

but on this issue i probably fall into the category of "extremely liberal"...as i am totally against the "for profit" health insurance industry...

@ as i am totally against the "for profit" health insurance industry...

If you ask me, they are just as bad as (late) Rev. Ike was calling his selling of prayer cloths and holy trinkets to help keep you saved simply because he cared soooo much about your salvation.  He didn't!  He only cared about your money.

Same with the healthcare industry.

Nah, never that, Bruh.  My gripe is the notion that everything can be somehow solved with a pill.

Not true.

Yet physicians prescribe a pill for almost everything that's wrong under the sun...

except for a pill to not need doctor's to give you a dayum pill anymore.

Okay that's it.  I'm off of my soapbox for today.  (drops the mic and exits stage left)

Yall have made me stop working and come out of lurk mode on this one.    The overall problem is that everyone, (doctors, drug companies, hospitals, and vendors), think the insurance companies are making too much money, (and they are).  So they overcharge the insurance companies and the insurance companies just keep increasing their rates. Here is an example where I will talk about prescription costs but all medical service and product providers are guilty of the same game.

Example: How can Target and Wal-mart sell you Generics at $4 but bill your insurance company $40 - $80?

Because as Taw said, it only costs a little to produce them, the make money either way. The co-pay on my insurance for generics is $5. I go to Target and save the dollar. But when I was using my insurance, they would bill my insurance $40 - $80 per prescription.
It’s not just the drug companies doing this overcharging but doctors, hospitals, and vendors. But at the end of the day the insurance companies goes back to the doctors, hospitals, and vendors and make deals to settle for 50% - 70% of what was charged. It doesn’t matter because it was overcharged either way and then everyone makes more money that the cost of the product or service provided. But these deals are not offered to Medicaid, Medicare, or businesses that are self-insured.

The overall objective is to have as much of America’s money put into healthcare a whole. The money can then be distributed to insurance companies, doctors, hospitals, vendors, and helpful politicians because healthcare is view as a necessity and there is not close regulation to keep them honest. As we hear how the VA plan, which is what the Congress and Senate has, operates efficiently. This is because it is regulated and if the providers of healthcare products and service tried to run the game there they would be caught. This is why reform of the Industry as a whole is needed.

I am definitely in favor of the healthcare plan and the reform that needs to go with it. People who are happy with their good insurance plans will be able to keep them. The people that are being offered outrageous plans, from their employers, will have an option. One thing we all have to remember that as long as there is a need for a service, someone will provide it.

Now that is one of the most cogent and well-thought out argurment/opinion concerning this topic that I've heard lately.

Glad we got you outta lurk mode, Bruh!

@ I just can't stand to see people having to deal with situations like having a sick child and no insurance coverage.

Well I can't stand to see people having to deal with situations like having Peanut Butter and no Jelly; a wallet and no money; and marriage without a pre-nup, but that's just me.
