Does anyone have a list of questions that they asked there surgeon?

I have started a list but not sure if I have missed anything.

Please let me know. Any help will be appreciate.

I'm having Lap RNY...I asked him how they would be closing the incisions. I thought they would do stitches.  He informed me that he would be doing stitches inside, and glue outside. No bandages or anything.  That was my biggest concern.

1. You will want to ask for a booklet/handout/instructions for after care: contains foods to eat/not to eat. It gives you a breakdown of when/how soon/stages of foods to eat (liquids, puree, solids). This may come from your nutritionist also.
2. What kind of after care can I expect from YOU (your doctor), some doctors just let you ride off onto the sunset..very little followup care.
3. How often can you visit your nutritionist. Is she available for phone/email consults. I have a very good nutritionist, she loves emails.
I have read here that a lot of people were not given any type of written instructions.
Important: (You are already on the right path) Continue to research on your own, the information in the booklet will not come close to what you will get here on OH/BAF/Your surgery type.  PLEASE follow your doctor's orders!!!!

  • Where will the surgery be performed?
  • What type of surgery will you be having? Open incision, laparoscopic, Proximal, Distal, etc.
  • How long can you expect to stay in the hospital?
  • How long will your recovery take?
  • What types of restrictions will you have after surgery?
  • What type of diet will you be on after surgery?
  • Will there be any nutritional supplements?
  • What types of special things will you need when you return home? i.e. foods, vitamins, painkillers, etc.

When you devote yourself to achieving your goal, you will not be bothered by shallow criticism.
