The President did it out of political necessity; Remember, the cop INVITED himself to the White House. If the President had said no, when the cop suggested coming to the White House with Gates for a beer, the Press and "Fox News" watchers would have even Greater criticism. It's all a part of the "game"...in 2 weeks this will all be over and the 24/7 news networks will be onto something else. Ethics nor professionalism has anything to do with who the President invites to the White House. When did it become anything but POPULAR to invite winning athletic teams, or Michael Jackson or Frank Sinatra or Elvis...Any Political animal has to "Smooze" now and then. Frankly, if Obama had been white, the media and biggots would not even have given his words or this meeting a second thought. Heck, when old boy got the beat down in Cali, Bush 1 said that he found the beating by police "Appalling"...but no one made a big deal out of that

In 2 years when we (Americans) have a good health care act and the economy is for the most part straightened out, THEY will find something else to harp on. Personally, My face is set for 4 years, we will see some pretty good stuff from Mr. Obama by then and he WILL be Re-elected! Mark this page, because I'm the first to say it...

Good question?  As someone else stated everything Obama does is an issue to the media and
those that oppose him.  It's partly because he is black, partly because he is the president, partly

because he is democrat, partly  because of the poor state of affairs in the US right now.  My

opinion .... it's just par for the course.  As for the beer at the White House? .... P R move after the

"stupid" remark ..... it's damage control.  So much more on the horizon that needs to be

addressed but he has to give a little energy to this situation.

President Obama is learning not to make off the cuff remarks, his speech was on healthcare,

they baited him to get off topic.  They are always waiting to pounce.

Hey Moe:
I would like to add to My previous Post, that there are so many Black people that question whether they are discriminated against, who are racially profiled, have been wronged...and who are hurting behind that stuff. It is theraputic for some to be able to voice their opinions in a forum such as BAF. For others, the pain is so bad that they just want to forget it and move on or they become indifferent to it. There is so much disparity about how "We" should handle racism, discrimination, prejudice, racist acts. One thing I know and that is there has to be Individual and Group healing around Slavery and "Race Issues."

I personally think the whole thing is played out. Yes they are making a big thing about it because he is black, he is a democrat, and he is in the white house. The republicans are really bitter about this right about now. Who cares who Obama chooses to spend his free time with. These are the same people who criticized Obama for taking his own wife to a play. So it doesn't surprise me that talking heads on t.v. has something to say about him trying to smooth out this situation. It is really time to move on from this. But don't worry Obama will decide to take his kids to McDonald's to get happy meals and that will spark a whole new debate about why is Obama trying to poison his kids with fast food.
