Hello,

Please help me! My doctor said I can have bread now I am 9 weeks out and wanted to know has anybody had a lunch meat sandwich, what type of bread, meat and dressing you think I should try? Another question has anyone had the whole grain pasta as a meal A friend told me she has the whole grain pasta, sugar free sauce, turkey meat, and shrimps makes a good pasta meal. How did you do with pasta, please help I want to eat something I like.

Wow 9 weeks out and your doc clears you for bread,  what the heck is that about.   Dang doctors are releasing people early on those carbs.

I say if he says you can eat it and you want to watch out on how much you eat cause once you start in on those carbs you enter a new territory that I personally try to avoid.  Only cause I am a carb-a-holic.

Whole grain bread is healthiest.  Toasting it seems to make it easier to get it through the pouch when you're a recent post op.  Try whatever kinds of meat you've already been eating.  Peanut butter is good too.  I don't use any special condiments - just regular mustard, mayo, ketchup, etc.  I tried using the non-fat mayo, but it just didn't TASTE good to me.  You're probably only going to be able to eat part of a sandwich.  I saw some whole grain pita pockets in the grocery store this week.  That might be something you'd be interested in trying.

I don't really do pasta.  Sorry, I can't help you with that one.

I had a different surgery so what I can tolerate you might not. I eat bread and pasta often. Right now for sandwiches I'm on Arnold's whole wheat sandwich thins. They are like skinny hamburger buns. I also use Healthy Life whole wheat low carb bread. For pasta I only fix Dreamfield's pasta. It has only 5g of digestible carbs per serving.

whenever I attempt to eat bread (which is very seldom) it hurts like the dickens going down and I pray to the Lord  Why oh why did I eat that blasted bread.

ETA: all surgeons are different but 9 weeks seems a lil early to introduce carbs.  Most people would tell you to delay the complex carbs as long as possible.  Not to mention that the sugar may make you dump.  Just my .02

I think something is wrong with me cause I have had NO PROBLEMS with bread. I would not eat an entire sandwich of course. Maybe 1 slice and fold it. I have eaten whole wheat pasta speghetti as well with no problems. The sauce was not sugar free, but it was not put on my food in excess either. If you really want to try it, I would toast it the first few times around. And of course wheat is always better than white. After you start eating it, you will probably prefer it. I know that's how it was for me with the whole wheat pasta.

Pretend he didnt tell you that you can have bread!! I think thats a little early myself, and my doctor steered me away from TOO MANY carbs and that has DEFINITELY helped.  If you get your pouch used to and dependent on carbs this early out, it will hinder your progress.  Carbs aren't bad though, we need some carbs to sustain our daily diets.  Here is a suggestion: find bread substitutes.  Really, you need the PROTEIN more than the carbs at this point in the game.  Try making a lettuce wrap (its not like you are going to be able to eat a whole sandwich anyway, so why waste it?) - use smoked turkey sliced really thin (almost shaved), honey ham, cheese, tomato, onion, etc and wrap it in a small piece of leaf lettuce.  That way you are getting your protein.  If you just want to try the bread.  Use only one piece, or half of a piece, that way you wont get so used to eating the carbs so much and you wont start a bad habit.  I actually became OCD about the bread eating - I wont eat it!  Because I know I need meat and the bread gives you the false sense that you are full, then you start grazing, then you eat more - next thing you know you are GAINING weight lol.  However, Carbs are not BAD - if eaten in moderation.  But for some folks, bread is their weakness, so most doctors say dont start a habit of eating so much of it so soon after surgery.  Besides that, it really hurt to swallow when I first tired it at 2 months out.  Other foods (veggies, fruits) have carbs in them as well. But seriously, I would give it a few more weeks on trying the bread.  Let me kno how the lettuce wraps work out!!

I'm a dreamfields low net carb pasta girl myself.  No sliced bread, only low carb tortillas or pita for me.  Recently I found at walmart joseph's lavish bread,  A huge rectangular tortilla a little bigger than four slices of bread.  On half is fifty calories and 4 net carbs and very filling so 1/4 makes a good small sandwhich.
