1st Egypt Story, I was assaulted at Immigration entering Egypt
on 7/29/09 7:11 am
When we arrived in Egypt we filled out the immigration papers and everything and was going through customs which is basically this mean looking man standing there and taking the papers.
Well Becca was holding both our paper cause I had a handfull of stuff and she got ahead of me, so the stewardess and pilots came up beside me and the guy says they go first, so I let them go then after them I start walking through and he holds his hand out for my paper which Becca gave him seconds ago and she was standing there, well I pointed to her and kept walking he shoved me hard in the chest back behind the line. Scared the **** out of me, so I look over at my guide, host or whatever you want to call him and he gives me this gesture to stay calm.
Well this asshole customs man, pushes Becca back across the line and yells NO loud right in my freaking face. So we had to fill out the papers again and wait for all the dam people to get through and then he let us through.
It was at that very moment that I realized ok, they don't value women in this country and I will have to humble myself so as to not cause an international incident and not let this ********kew my view of Africa. LOL. That **** scared the hell out of me.
Becca and I both were scared as hell after that. We were shaking for like a hour.

Well... I am glad you stayed calm Lee cuz I am sure it made a difference in whether you guys got through or not....talking about abusing authority. Geesh!
I am glad that you guys had a good time regardless...can't wait to hear the other stories.

I didn't have any other choice but to stay calm. The air is so tense and I knew trying to flex my "American" would not fly, plus I never do that in any country I visit. I try to respect the place but it is hard when someone gets physical with you.
Actually we knew the immigration process is nothing to play with and can be harsh but I have never hand anyone put their hands on me. But I just fell back behind that line with a smile on my face, while in the meantime I was cussing him out in my head but you can't even let that show on yoru face.

Yep your right Mamapeaches. When you are on their soil, you respect their ways and if that means swallowing your "American" then that is what you do. It is all a part of international travel.
Like the old saying goes, When in Rome, Do like the Romans. It is really true.
