Hypertension, Potassium, and Water Retention
Good Morning BAF Family,
Does anyone out there have blood pressure related issues that just refuse to go away after wl?
I'm on fire this morning because as soon as I went off my Rx potassium supplement it took less than a week to develop kankles and start retaining water. (I wish these flames could dry out some of the water weight
.) My surgeon keeps all patients on potassium for a few months post op, but whenever I stop taking it the old problem returns. My body water is up almost 5% this morning.
My bp is good, my resting heart reat is better than good but the water retention persists despite abstaining from salt and avoiding hidden sodium. Exercise has never made any difference. I'll be calling doctors today but I'd like the benefit of your experience.
I have had hypertension since my teens and long before becomming morbidly obese. It is hereditary, and everyone else with bp issues is thin and never was fat.
Any opinions? Any similar experiences? Did your neighbors mother's cousin go through this and tell you a story you could share? Any home remedies? Am I just doomed to keep my one and only co morbidity forever?
As always, thank you family for letting be ***** and moan.

V'N MY RNY. WORKING FOR ME BECAUSE I WORK FOR IT.
Since WLS, I have had blood pressure readings that were slightly high. Didn't have it this bad pre WLS. Also have the water retention....mostly swollen ankles.....I hate that...soooooooooooo not sexy!
My PCP has me on water pills and potassium daily. It helps, but I don't take them like I should on the weekends because I'm out and about and don't want to have to keep stopping for bathroom breaks. I can tell the difference when I don't take them because my ankles blow up.
I guess this is just something I may have to just live with....it could be worse.
LOL @ neighbors mother's cousin

Good morning all. I have had HBP since I was 18. I have to say that since surgery it has come down on the numbers a little bit. However, I deal with water weight and swelling quite a bit these days. I decided to pay more attention to it and I noticed that I swell and retain more fluid on the days that it is hotter out. So it seems to have something to do with the weather.
I am going to ask my doc about it when I go back in to see her this month. Good luck with getting that under control.
