Tipping

1) First off... do you feel there is ever a time when you should NOT tip?  I do not tip the fast food joints (McDonald's, BBQ shacks)  who have a can sitting in front of the register for TIPS.

2.) Do you ever tip over the 18-20% ever? Yes I will tip over that amount ESPECIALLY if the person give me extra hook-ups just because ex. bartender add a extra shot WITHOUT me asking.

3.) Do you tip for take out?  If it a sit down restaurant and I call-in a order YES. Especially when the person take the time to tell me what is all in my bag and is friendly. For those I normally just do 10%

4.) I know many of us don't do Buffets...but when you did...did you tip?  Yes I do tip at buffets.

Hi Mrs. Rhonda,

You know...I often wondered about those tip cans myself. They are at car washes too. I usually throw in a dollar or two...but I would always have this horrible vision of  a fight breaking out
afterwards as they try and divie up the money. The guys would be all sweaty and their T-shirts dripping wet from the car wash spray...muscles protruding and tight buttocks peeping through wet pants...ahhhhhh hold up....let me go add a few more dollas to that dayum can!

Do you tip for take out? You know they actually expecting it now. (I don't cuz I still don't get why

Marlo...OMG....I often thought this too but just did not let it stop my fat azz. LOL!

I think its customary to give your babysitter "at least" a $20 tip with a thank you card. I was not sure about the mail carrier but I found this on yahoo but could not find anything on the actual USPS site...ran out of time.

There is federal law limiting what gifts you can give a postman (they are federal employees). You don't want to get him fired, so follow these guidelines from the USPS website. Pay special attention to the last exclusion (NO CASH):

Gifts to Postal Service Employees
While many Postal Service™ customers have traditionally thanked their letter carrier with gifts of cash during the holiday season, this practice puts our employees at risk of violating federal law. The Standards of Ethical Conduct for Employees of the Executive Branch ("Standards"), specifies that Postal Service employees may not accept gifts from outside sources (including Postal Service customers) or gifts given to them because of their official positions. Postal Service employees are also prohibited from soliciting gifts from outside sources.

There are a number of exceptions and exclusions to the general gifts rule. Postal Service employees may accept the following items:

-Snacks and beverages that are not offered as part of a meal.
-Items with little intrinsic value (i.e., greeting cards, plaques, pens, coffee mugs, etc.).
-Perishable items (i.e., flowers, chocolates, cookies, etc.); if the items are clearly worth more than $20, employees should share them with others in the Postal Service workplace.
-Items with a market (retail) value of $20 or less.
-Gifts motivated solely because of a personal relationship.
-Gifts for which the employee has paid market (retail) value.
-Gifts paid for by the Postal Service.
-Postal Service employees may not accept cash - in any amount or form (bills, checks, money orders) - from an outside source.

Edit: I have neveral been a federal employee. I just don't want misguided appreciation to get someone fired for Christmas. It has happened. I think he'd appreciate something he can use on his route more anyway (cookies, cocoa, mug, etc.)

1.) First off... do you feel there is ever a time when you should NOT tip?

Hell yeah!

Give an example. If not,  do you tell the person why or complain?

If the service is not just lacking but so poor until I feel like I would've done a lot better by just walking into their kitchen and start preparing my own meal, then I won't leave them ****  I once went to a restaurant where the goofy-azz college-aged kid asked me and the other 3 people at the table what we wanted to eat.  She wrote nothing down, relying solely on memory.  We never got bread and water for our table (what I consider a must have); she left us alone for long periods of time and didn't check to see if our food came out or was it correct when it did.  It wasn't.  I went to the bathroom and found her up at the desk flirting with a co-worker.  Once I returned to my seat she made it a point to keep coming over every 6 mins or so to say, "How are we doin?"

How am I doin?!  I ain't doin **** about giving you a tip.  That's how I'm doing.  NO love for you!

2.) Do you ever tip over the 18-20% ever? If you do...do you tell the person why?

Yeah.  If the server is friendly, helpful, and doing their job like a pro then sure I'll break them off up to about 18%.  Now if she whips out the knee pads and keeps running back and forth from my table to the kitchen then oh hell yeah I'll drop a whole 20% extra on the table.

3.) Do you tip for take out?

Oh hell no.

You know they actually expecting it now. (I don't cuz I still don't get why the hell I should...all u did was put my shioot in a bag...hand me the bag...I'll do it my dayum self)

Word!

4.) I know many of us don't do Buffets...but when you did...did you tip?

Nope.  All the server did is bring me more soda.  I coulda gotten that when I walked past the soda fountain on my third trip for seconds.

I hear you Ayy! Sometimes I wonder if people are that dense that they honestly think they are going to get rewarded for bad service. I mean don't they take waitressing classes or something. Either their azz was late for the classes or they just don't give a "F". Believe it or not...some of them (not all) are some spoil azz kids still living off mommy and daddy. They don't give a dayum...only working the job just to say they did. I knew a few in my day.

Whatcha know Phatlexus?

Really 15% for poor service. Wow...thats somewhat of an eye opener. Here I thought I was doing good.

I do agree that once you have been in that particular service industry you do tend to be more understanding of how appreciative folks are when they get tipped appropriately.  I mean its really not a tip...its their income...and what they use to take care of their families.

I think this was one of the reasons I started the post. It is important.

Service  has to be over the top bad to get zero from me.  I even tip substandard (under 10%) for substandard serv****s.  It sends a message and they know I did not just forget.  I make my complaints after you've proven you can't redeem yourself and have no access to screwing me over.  I make use of online complaints when I need to.  Half the on site managers are no better than the staff with the issues.

Excellent service deserves an excellent tip.  I complain so I also call the manager or go online to praise when service is above and beyond expecttions.

Never.  Counter service people have an houly wage.  Nothing for the tip jar from me, period.  Wait staff get paid less than minimum wage and the tips are factored in to bring them up to minimum.  They rely on tips to get paid.  Take out staff wages are factored into the cost of the product.

I tip the person *****fills drinks and takes away those wonderful yeasty rols I no longer can eat so I don't have to smell them.  One dollar per head.
