Tipping

On my way to work this morning, I was listening to the TJMS as usual.  That fool, Jay Anthony Brown, had me cracking up! He was doing his impersonation of the Chinese Restaurant owner talking about "Blac-ka peepol don't tip!"

So I started thinking about it and my tipping habits.  I actually consider myself a good tipper. In restaurants, I tip 15% for average service and 20% for excellent. On a day when I am in a really good mood, I might even throw a few bucks in on top of that just for good measure (trying to balance it out for the mofos that don't tip...lol).

I will leave $3-5 a day for the maid depending on the hotel and will give the bell hop the customary $2 a bag.  I know that there are many other occasions to tip but I wont expound here. In a nutshell, I do alright. I know it always brightened my day to get a nice tip.

The thing that gets me is the people that expect tips over the top or tips for not doing a dayum thing! For instance, I will order room service on occasion (the kids get a kick out of it). Now, the bill will already include perhaps $3 for delivery, 18-20% gratuity, tax and tags...lol. On top of that they have the nerves to leave a spot for you to add in additional gratuity. I mean dayum...I am already up to nearly $50 for 3 hamburgers and chips! Hell the least you could do is give me a full bottle of ketchup and not that dayum preemie version....lol.  Don't get me wrong...hey if you have it like that and want to give something xtra that's fine...I just don't think that the delivery person should necessarily be expecting it.. Cuz when you don't add sumin sumin xtra..your azz have to be all paranoid wondering what the mofo "done did" to sabotage you later... have me looking at door knobs and stuff...wondering if I have any slimy little gifts left for me. Ya'll know that people will do some messed up stuff with yo food and you when they feel slighted.

So I have a couple of tipping etiquette questions for you.

1.) First off... do you feel there is ever a time when you should NOT tip? Give an example. If not,
do you tell the person why or complain?

2.) Do you ever tip over the 18-20% ever? If you do...do you tell the person why?

3.) Do you tip for take out? You know they actually expecting it now. (I don't cuz I still don't get why
the hell I should...all u did was put my shioot in a bag...hand me the bag...I'll do it my dayum
      self)

4.) I know many of us don't do Buffets...but when you did...did you tip?

Feel free to add questions or share your tipping nightmares or good experiences!

Blac-ka peepol please tip if you don't . *That's the restuarant owner talking not me.*

do you tell the person why or complain?  If the food is bad I will send it back, but will still tip the server the regular amount.  If I receive POOR service I will leave exactly two pennies and not return to that restaurant.

2.) Do you ever tip over the 18-20% ever? If you do...do you tell the person why?
I always tip 20%, more if the service was exceptional.

3.) Do you tip for take out? You know they actually expecting it now. (I don't cuz I still don't get why
the hell I should...all u did was put my shioot in a bag...hand me the bag...I'll do it my dayum
      self)  No

4.) I know many of us don't do Buffets...but when you did...did you tip?  If they brought me a beverage, I leave a dollar or two.

I might pay the bill with the credit card, but I always tip my server with cash.

Hey So Blessed!

Thanks for posting...now see you done opened up something now....today all across this country..theres going to be exactly two pennies left on many a table. Just kidding.

Yes, I think I am going to adopt the pay server with cash idea. When you really think about it...I am sure its more beneficial to the server in more way than one.

Re the credit card reciept.  Whether you are or not tipping on the reciept to make sure you marking the tip area in a way, so that someone can't write in a tip or change the tip amount later.   There's been incidents with restaraunt staff being caught adding or changing  the tip amount.,    If leaving a tip, the suggestion is to write out the amount instead of just using numbers & if not, x out or scratch out the area.

Yes, cash is greatly appreciated! Instant paycheck :)

I ALWAYS put zero in the tip area of the credit card slip and write in the total amount.

1. I've never just flat out not tipped. But I'va also never had extremely bad service anywhere. But I believe if you do have really really bad service you're supposed to leave a penny and complain to the manager. I read that somewhere lol

2. Nope, never. My husband does and I always give him the side eye when he does, but I always tip 20% when I go out. It's easy to figure out and I think appropiate for 2009. I think 15% is so circa 1995.

3. I Never tip take out. I put my lil slash in the space for the tip and write the total on the appropiate line. Don't wanna sneaky mofo writing in thier own tip lata.

4. I still do buffets. I tip 10% usually. Maybe 15% if you just went over the top helping me...but if you just picked up my one plate and I can only drink one glass of water so there's no refills, you gettin 10%

I know what you mean about using the slash. That actually happened to me once...but I think I was just too tipsy to remember that I actually left the tip...lol. Slash is good.
