OMG I thought I had my mind made up.....
So I went to my last nutritional visit yesterday and the waiting room became a support group session and all the post op people were discussing there weight loss and trials and triumphs anywhoo, Some of the conversations had me thinking that lap band would not be good for me that I would get better results from the bypass. I am so confused and indecisive now. Can I get some insight on how some of you made the decision...lap or bypass. Please help I am really getting close to getting this done I picked a fine time get like this dang!!!

Well - the things *I* considered were:
1 - type of overater I am (and still say am) - I love sweets and carbs
2 - the amount of weight I needed to lose, which was over 200lbs. Lap Band has you losing 2-5lbs a month average, which if you do some quick division - is a LONG ASS TIME. I'm impatient.
3 - maintenance. Lap band requires fill and unfills to adjust. I don't wanna be poking around with **** for the rest of my life.
4 - I threw the 'reversible' **** out of the door. If you are even thinking of reversing your surgery, you shouldn't get it in the first place. The mere thought of having it undone should mean you aren't committed enough. So that meant for me either one wasn't going NO PLACE
5 - my doctor's advise for me was RNY - based on all of the above and THAT is who I felt knew the best path for me.
good luck to you - keep us updated on your progress!!!

It's all good - I went into my surgeon's office talking about the band and homie was like 'you're just going to play IN a band someday, right' - cause having the band ain't gonna cut it!!!
Naw - he ain't really SAY that - but that's the gist of what he told me. LOL

Hi RoRo. I had a Lap Band and will be 2 years out in Sept. Personally if I had to do it again I would have gotten the RNY or DS. I'm not sure what your weight is and how much you want ot lose, but I started out at around 365-370. I lost about 60 lbs my 1st year and have been at a standstill ever since. I've also needed to have my port replaced, and all this is with me paying out of pocket.
There are plenty of people here and on the LapBand board you will find that have been very successful-it just hasn't worked well for me. Another problem I encountered is I used to relocate frequently due to work and as a Band pt it can be difficult to find a surgeon willing to do followup with another Dr's pts.
If you have any more questions feel free to check out my blog or PM me.

Unfortunately as a self pay I am still paying for my 1st surgery. If I suddenly won the lotto I'd be in the surgeon's office the next day.
I truly thought the Band would be perfect for me. I am really a volume eater. I just LOVE good food, not necessarily sweets. I wan't a grazer so it looked like a match made in heaven. Unfortuantely I am still struggling to say the least. I recommend you check out the Regrets and the Revision Boards. Most on the Band bard have taken a sip of the spiked Kool Aid. Its a Band lover's cult over there-its east to be that way when things are working well, but when you have problems you are kinda thrown to the wolves and blamed for any problems occuring.
If the idea of the Bnad still interests you-check out the VSG. Very similar to the Band but with out the hardware and intense followup needed.

Hi Ms RoRo,
I just wanted to wish u best with whatever decision you make. Its so good that you are getting as much information and insight as you can. RNY was always the only option I considered as recommended by my surgeon. I did not do research on the others before hand. You are definitely a step ahead of the game. Take care.
