How do you get motivated?

I'm really struggling with the exercise thing. I work midnights and my job requires roughly an hour of walking a night. I'm doing good with my food choices and protein but I'm just not losing the weight. I get off work and go right to bed but when I get up in the afternoon I'm still exhausted. I just don't know how to do more exercise when I can't even cook for my kids. I feel the success window is closing as I'm almost half way through the six month honeymoon phase. I haven't even lost 40 pounds yet. I'm taking my B12 also.

What exercise has given you the most success since walking isn't doing it for me? How do you get up to do it when your exhausted?

I am more than six month out I also had VSG I still don"t have a lot of energy if you don't do nothing at all walk some more when you get home the walking you do at work is not exercise your body is use to it. You have to do something extra make sure you get your protein and have your iron level checked.

First make sure you're getting enough iron and protein.  It will help your energy level.  My nutritionist wants me at 71-89g protein but I find 100g is better.  I don't have to eat more to get it, I just reduce the carbs and make lower fat choices.  I can't speak for carb intake but the extra other nutrition helps me a lot.

Next start slow.  Pick short simple at home programs.  You can work up to joining a gym or buying equiment once exercise is a habit.  One example is Leslie Sansone's walk at home dvd's.  Really simple, 30 min or less and they do get your heart rate up.  Commit to 20 or 30 min every other day.

Once you get used to a little sweating you'l realize it feels good.  Starting is hard but when you feel the muscles under your fat and see the changing definition of your body, you will stay motivated.

Last be accountable.  Declare your plan in the accountability post or buddy with someone on the back line to pm regularly.  Swear to tell the whole truth no matter how ugly.  Keep a log, nothing fancy just jot down what you did and if you skipped.  Then go back and read how you're doing. Success further motivates you.  Poor effort will hopefully shame you into action.

Good luck to you

I say don't wait to be motivated just start doing it.   If you can instead of walking at work put a tiny bit of jogging in there.  Get yourself a timer and run for a minute and alternate it with the walking. It can be a slow jog doesn't have to be fast.  Shoot you can even jog in place.    Your walking at work is not exercise cause you probably don't want fast enough to get your heart rate up to a sustained rate and your body is so use to it.

The only way to get motivated is to be determined to do it.   Also get your levels checked make sure your not to low in iron and other important things.

Hello..you may not be getting enough proteins and water in....believe it or not you have to have engery to lose weight, and you have to get in enough proteins to stay out of starvation mode too...they recommend at least 70-80 grams of proteins per day and about 1 liter of water per day to keep the weight  loss moving....also this will give you energy to execise and walk, if you work at night you may want to take a long walk early in the morning BEFORE you go to bed  this way you have gotten your daily walk in before you sleep or take care your kids...good luck
