1. Are ya totally devoted to your job - come in early, stay late whatever? Job IS your life?

2. Is your job just a job where you show up put in your time and blow out the door after 8?

Thought this question deserved some discussion since I'm in the middle of a performance review and my crappin boss has lost his mind. My co workers are forever keeping me over after my shift for stupid ****

Hell no I don't wanna stay until ten after so you can go to the cafe for breakfast. If you was hungry shoulda got up earlier! I sure don't wanna hang around to shoot the **** wit ya. We all have to change clothes when we get here and shower before we leave. These folk will hold me over cuz they're having a conversation in the locker room. One woman will stay an hour after her shift is over just talking to people.

Now my boss is acting like it's a bad thing that I just wanna leave after my 8. This joker just doesn't get the concept that I have to be gone by X time to get home to my kids so my hubby can go to work. This is a job not my life!

Hell I'm one of the only people here who does their job without a bunch of nagging and is actually on time. I can't believe this ass is criticizing because I want outta here on time.

I have encountered that myself in the past.  Being a single parent with little help - timelines can mean everything.  Luckily I can telecommute and have a Blackberry with this job so it can be flexible - I take countless conference calls and send emails while in traffic.

If your boss is actually scoring you less on your work performance because of this, and you are an hourly employee (it doesn't say in your thread) you could have grounds to rebut his review with HR.  Your performance can only be monitored or considered for the hours you work.

If you are exempt - things change a bit.  However, what you can do is share your timeline needs/crunches with your boss and the group.  Everyone at my gig knows I am a single parent and my blazing trail out of the door at 5:15 is because I am about be late to my NIGHT job - MOM.  When a male collegue tried to insinuate that I was a 'slacker' because I was leaving and he was still there - I asked "so - does that mean you gave your wife the night off and you're doing everything around the house when you finally leave here too? "  He had to shut the hell up then.

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

Ive experienced that too...unless the review is not going to affect your salary or position let it ride....it's just office politics/popularity sontest sounds like...sometimes as i was told by 2 supervisors 'perception is reality' ( idiots...perception is the oppositie of reality) However..the evaluate you based upon a perception..whether it it accuate or not. Play nice in the sandbox girl and keep it moving. That will make it easier for you. Also..with this perception thing..Im doing an experiment this year: I bet you my weight loss alone will get me a good evaluation even though I will do half of the work i did last year.........Last year I worked like a dog..chairperson of this or that commitee  after regular hours ect. Had glowing mid year evaluations...towards the end of the year i had to confront a coworker ( who lives at work...no life..no kids...control freak) and apparently my supervisior did not like me calling her ass on the carpet( which i did very professionally i may add) All of a sudden he changed my position without even talking to me about it...after ALL the extra damn work I did...and when I asked him about it he said some bull**** about 'he thought my energy was down at the end of the year" WTF? now.. you are really just making up ish now....... Well i guess my energy would be down going above and beyond all year makin you a@@ look good.. and also where the hell did he get that from? But I don't regret it not one bit...the days of me taking ish and not speaking up are over.

P.S.........don't say ANYTHING negative to any coworker at work..they take that str8 to the boss... I've learned to shoot the bs with the coworkers just for the hell of it and that keeps them of ya back...now I still dont hang out with them...1. I have a life and 2. I don't want to hear all hat BS they talk about
